Domestic longhair is a term to describe all longhair cats, which don’t belong to any breed standard, strictly speaking especially in cat show, all cats without pedigree certificate is called domestic longhair cats. Domestic longhair cats do exist naturally in the cooler climate as do our domestic shorthair cats here.

Persian cross or any longhair cross don’t necessary produce domestic longhair cats, especially cross with shorthair cats, their kittens are more likely to be domestic shorthair than longhairs. Because longhair is a recessive gene and unless both parents have the longhair gene, their kittens will be shorthairs.

For our society, it is easier for people to understand if you describe crossbred kittens as certain breed X certain breed (e.g. Persian X Maine Coon). If the father is unknown then certain breed cross (e.g. Persian cross) rather than just Persian kittens. Mind you, most people don’t know if their Persian cat is a Persian cross or domestic longhair. The kittens they produced are in fact Persian cross, cross or domestic longhair. Of cause there is no Persian XX just domestic longhair cat.
