there is a person in my area who has about 30 cats that live indoors, most rescued. these rescued cats have bred among themselves. some of the offspring are medium/ long-haired, really huge and quite fierce. they are brown or silver tabby with white undersides and have ruffs, medium length hair on the body and really bushy tails. they look like malaysian maine coons!
these cats are really intriguing. the owner feels that it is the food that she gives them that has made a difference - but genetically is it possible for two kucing kampung (DSH X DSH) to occasionally produce medium/long-haired offspring?

i believe the longhairs gene is not that exclusive to certain breed only as the origin of all cats, breed or no breed still same like us...
i believe it is also possible for two DSH to have DLH offspring as the longhair gene is recessive. if both parents carry one longhair gene, it is possible for 25% of the kittens to be longhairs.
the genes can be passed thru generations without anyone knowing, unless you do DNA test la
remember that shorthair gene dominant while longhair is recessive. so that a DSH might have only 1 shorthair gene and another must be longhair. for a DLH, both gene must be longhair genes
