I put my Burmese under domestic shorthair last Kuching Cat Show and she came first in the female open.

i know that it is a bit unfair for persian or any other pure breeds who doesnt have pedigrees to compete under domestic longhair... that is why there is the Novice category.. this is a special category for pure breed cats without a certificate... but apparently the competition is always very stiff as it is an open class..

meaning that pure breed of various breed will compete for best novice... 3 times best novice from 3 different judges.. the cat will be given a certification of pedigree... but after 3 times if the cat didnt manage to get certified if he or she wants to enter shows they have to go under the domestic longhair or shorthair category accordingly.. on the 3 times.. it is not necessary consequtive.. if he gots 2 excellent in 2 shows n miss at one show.. he or she has another chance at the next show...

local judges are not particular but for most international judges they would go for a "true and real" domestic looking cats because the truth is they belongs with the pedigree but due to non-existence of certificate they end up at the domestic long hair or short hair category....

r u referring to the Sarawak Cat Show in December 2003? i was there too.. every category pedigree or non pedigree are on open class basis but segregated by the gender.. but for kittens it will be opened class male n female and will only differentiate by age.. 3-6 and 7-10... nevertheless there are a few ocassions where a pedigree cat with no paper was competing under domestic longhair been transferd to novice class category if the judge felt that the cats meets all the criteria.. it happens at that show..
