well, put the sand around an inch high, how much used will depend on how big the litterbox is. how big the litterbox? look at the cat's size

no need to throw the sand everyday, use the scoop to scoop out the clump (pee) and poo. once a week, throw the whole stuff and wash the litterbox. then dry and refill. however, perhaps you'll need to top up the sand.

as for me, i don't use sand anymore, i use pine pellets. so, i just clean the poo everyday...
