I will say that some breeders of slow maturing breeds, prefer to neuter later at around 6-8 months but personally I've not seen any difference in maturation in all breeds/domestics.

Andf as a breeder of slow maturing breeds (early - 14 wk - neutering since 1970) I can vouch for there being no developmental nor health problems. Wouldn't have it any other way. Many vets were taught that 6 mths was the golden rule.........back then.
