Well, so many people'd given so many good advise, here's my addition and sharing of experience

There's many poor abandoned/stray cats. If you're looking for non-pedigree cats, my suggestion is to go to PAWs or SPCA to get them. If you could afford it and you're not home most of the time, get a pair (so they can play with each other). And please consider financial commitments - having a cat means providing food (for me I'd have to spend about RM40.00 a month), cat litter (feline pine 1 pack/month, get from jusco RM19.90 a month), toys, vet visit (so far my cat's medex had cost me around RM500.00 - for vaccination/check up/treatment/spay), babysitter/boarding (I travel a bit - cost me RM700.00 in total to put her up with the vet's boarding facility).. It's just an example - I was blur sotong when i first got my cat, but I decided that I love her and would provide the best I can for her well being and so far, I'm quite an OK owner (have been a proud neutered DLH owner for 6 months now) Truth be told, it's the other way around - Kitty owns me now

So think carefully, and good luck!!
