Hi Sam,
aku pun guna crystal litter jugak aka silica lah. anyway, what i did was aku tak tukar terus pada yg baru. aku campur silica tu ngan existing sand so that all my cats will get used to the changes of their toilet. then i slowly reduced the sand (soiled) n increase the silica for 2 weeks or so b4 do a full switch over. like ur case, kalau i buat cam nie, i m sure ur cats would not get that 'excited' with the crystals..
there r actually 2 types of crystals that available di market; rough edges n rounded ones. now, since kitty litter aku ialah jenis hooded (tertutup) w flapping doors, so tak byk crystals (rounded ones) yg terkeluar. kalau Sam punya litter tu jenis yg open n then u guna yg rounded ones tu, memang crystals tu easily fly out. so, what i wud rekomen is that use the rough edges crystals or get a hooded litter or u can place a carpet underneat the box so that the crystals would not easily roll away...
the difference i observed abt my cats' behaviour ialah mereka kerap guna toilet mereka. i rasa sebab crystals tu memang lah krg habuk n then rasa soft aje bila paw diorang pijak...
