Gosh Alicia, must be pretty "rough" neighbourhood for your cat. I sincerely hope she's doing better now. So, how do you manage her urge to go outdoors now? I can imagine the look on her face asking to go out.
I think you're making the right decision of keeping her indoors, looking at the harsh realities she's been exposed to. Some neighborhoods can be tough for them even when they're minding their own business.
