I read a lot of comments on SPCA in this forum. It is heart-broken to read about those innocent soul put to sleep due to no better alternative(s) available. At the same time, we know that SPCA tried their very best to provide the best that they could for these lovely four legged babies with the limited funding and space that they have. It is extremely tough to fit in their shoes, what more – to walk in that shoe for a mile or two.

My Humble Suggestion:

What about introduce a ‘sponsorship’ scheme.
Whereby one person could sponsor one or two (depends on individual’s budget) of these innocent soul until they found place to call home?

How it works?
A person will pick the baby(s) he would like to sponsor, and pay in advance the sponsorship (may be two months in advance?). While anyone who goes to SPCA cud decided to adopt the sponsored baby. The sponsor himself will try to promote this baby to those that he knows (his network).
As he promotes only one or two cats/dogs, the adoption success rate might be higher – due to concentrated effort.
Once the baby found new home, the sponsor responsibility ended there. If he would like to sponsor some more babies, he could do so. If he could not afford or need a break, he may stop for a while or forever.

The benefits:
1. The chance for this baby to put to sleep due to $$ constraint reduced tremendously.
2. The chance for this baby to get a good home is higher due to personal promotion of his availability within the sponsor’s network.
3. Possible impact on ‘tax’. As this could be considered as donation…it may have impact on sponsor’s tax. Err. This portion I am not really good at….cud someone help.
4. The sponsor felt good as he did something good with whatever $$ that he cud afford to put aside.

Conclusion:
Just imagine if one former sponsor 1 cat/dog? How many cat/dog will find new home within 2 months???
