Hi COuntess,
Since exotic post had been quite a while, perhaps i cud assist u. usually ear mites would look like black stains inside the cat's ears. therefore, u wud need to buy those antiseptic for ear mites which u cud get them either fr a pet store or fr the vet. it can be either an ear drop n gel paste.
1st of all, u wud need to a cotton bud n i m not sure how big is ur kitty but get the small size cotton bud for kittens or the normal adult cotton buds for adult cats. u wud need to clean his ears first by using the cotton bud to remove the excessive dirt (mites) n then only u put the antiseptic into the cats ear. Massage his lower ear so that the medicine will thoroughly apply inside the cat's ear b4 u proceed on the next one. Do not worry about poking the cat's ear drum coz cat's ear canal is an L-shape whilst human is straight in but that does not mean u poke the cotton bud all the way in excessively. just remember to do it gently n shud ur cat retaliate, do not force him. let him take a break for 10/15 mins b4 attempting the round.
