Unhappy Very sad situation...

Hey all,

This has been happening quite a bit in the forum and I find it quite sad that people are buying expensive unpapered cats from petshops and then trying to sell them off in the forum, still unneutered and at unreasonable prices.

Irrespective of where you got your cat (and I'm not talking about strays although it is related to the topic), when you buy a cat, the cat deserves a forever home and not just a temporary home - as soon as it develops into an adult, you want to get rid of it coz it's not cute anymore or you've realised that you can't show in a pedigree class in Cat shows since they have no papers.

Please, do not impulse buy from petshops. If you can't afford to keep a cat and their kittens, don't even start! Think of your situation before you buy...can you look after it? Are you looking for a new job which may make you be out of town frequently, are you on a limited budget, can you afford the costs if something unwanted happens, are you a student that will continue studies overseas?

There are more than enough strays in Malaysia and there are even DLH roaming the streets.

Think before you buy - a cat is not a car or a toy. It is a living, breathing creation of god that deserves a respect and loving FOREVER HOME.

No offense intended to anyone. But some will still find this post offensive anyway...

in sg a cat lover spent $20k sgd on her cat's medical treatment. this appeared in an article in the straits times last sunday. a dog owner interviewed said that she would not spend as much because at the end of the day.. a pet is still only a pet. and she may need the money for more important things. i think at the end of the day.. if u think u may ever be harbouring such a thought. dont get a pet.

yes...sound sad but realities sometime bites. That is y i discourage ppl getting pets fr petshops. Don't be surprise that the pet that you get from some petshops, is not de-sexed, not been dewormed and most of all not even vaccinated before handed to new home.

As Abymummy mentioned, no offense intended to anyone...

I dont find this offensive at all. As I totally agree with what Abbymummy said. Once my friend wanted to buy or get a cat and I asked her a basic question. 'Do you think you can take care of the cat for better or worse for 25 years?' and she went silent. So I told her off to forget it!

You raised a good point Abymummy. I saw a posting today that the cat's shedding is annoying the owner. I feel like smacking the owner across the head for the lack of commitment and sacrifice (sorry if this is harsh but I get pissed easily on Mondays).

I can't say that I'm perfect in taking care of my furballs, but I try my damnest to do it. I moan and whinge everytime I have to pay the vet, groomers etc but one hug from them is enough to make me forget that they're bleeding me dry

To add another sad story would be..........

I have a fren here, early this year when she adopted few DSH kittens I was very happy. When I went to her house, I notice she has made her house cat proof, the cat being taken to vet, treated well taken care off. I was very pleased. But time pass....last week she sms me telling me her female cats escaped, will they be coming back she asked. I asked her were your cats on heat she said yes...I told her not to worry her cat will be back once they finish mating but she can look forward for some kittens in the near future. For sure the cats return back too....few days later she told me the cats escaped and she's not going to bother this time...let the cat come back if they want too....

Yesterday I went to her house, saw one of her female cat at the porch and notice her son happily chasing the cat away.....I ask her isn't this your cat ? She said yes. Why aren't you keeping them indoors anymore ? Guess what she told....."they are getting a little bit difficult to take care these days" so I just leave them food at the porch for them to eat. Ahhhhhhhh!!!!! I was so pissed off....another stray in the making!!!!! It doesn't matter how highly someone can be educated, or what ranking they hold....certain groups of people to me never what to change for the better.

End of the story don't get a cat if you can't take care of it for life (either yours or theirs ). Simple as that.

I think is not the matter of can't afford in most cases, is more to lack of responsibility. So as simple as it is.....don't get a pet! Get a soft toy instead.

i agree with you. i might not be the perfect cat owner in the world, but i would try my best to provide them with necessities i can afford (obviously i couldn't afford 20k sgd vet bill!). but at the end of the day, i would melt when i see my furballs and obviously they are the light of my life!

the same goes to having kids. some people breed like rabbits (having a baby every year!) but the kids behaviour are really bad. the excuse? "they are just children! when they grow up the will behave lah..." to me, having someone with half of your dna spells lifelong responsibility! if you couldn't even take care of a pet, don't even think to have a baby!
