That's how i came to own my off-white persian mix, former owners gave her to me when she was 5 years old bcos "they didn't have time to take care of her anymore bcos of job commitments etc" (that's what they told me). Few month later they bought 2 cute himalayan kittens. I'm actually waiting to see if they're going to dump them on me again since the kittens should be about 4 years old now.

well, in my opinion, although a cat had an uncurable disease still, morally, we need to be responsible for cat's needs such as our love and attention since we are the one who brought the cat home in the 1st place. no cat wanted to have any sort of disease. if a cat would communicate to us, what will the cat say? "Of all the good times that we have together and now I'd been ditched juz because I hv uncurable disease??"
would anyone do the same thing if this happen to a human? something to think about....

Horatio's right. You can't throw away cats that has uncurable disease. Tu memang tak bertanggungjawab tu. They also have feelings.

hi horatio and gotthica,
actually i was referring to arnee and her new cat, goober's case. he have feline leukimia. he need to be isolated from other cats. otherwise, without having a new owner (arnee) and being the only cat, he might have been euthanised. which is better, given away or taking lives? i support the previous owner decision to gave him away |

well, i guessed if one choose their path that way, then we will let it be.
I think giving away a cat with health problems is similar to throwing rubbish at someone's backyard. solve ur problem but create one for others. Anyway, unless there wud be someone who could willingly to take care such innocent cat, it is all ok. But honestly, how many people that we came across would tell the neighbour that u had ditched rubbish into their backyard?? I did not say there would be no kind people around but how many are there nowadays? Worst case scenario, they ditch the cat to animal shelter and all cats were infected. Who would be blamed on this? The owner of course. Anyway, i found a link on Feline Leukemia Virus for the sake of other forumers' knowledge n not juz plain reading other people's thoughts. It is good to do some research before deciding on something.... hastily...

If that sounds sad, imagine if we are at the edge of age 80's and have been infected by uncurable disease... and our sons/daughters decided to send us away because they dont want our diseases to "infect" them and our grandchilds. How would you feel guys? Imagine that! Or .. after our sons/daughters got a good jobs, married and have kids.. they were busy with jobs and family. Because of they are BUSY, they decided to send us away. Cats have feelings too people! Its just that they cant talk and cannot cry right in front of you. |

Yes, very true. Just because they can't speak for themselves, many humans just take their pets for granted. It just makes me sick to read such pets give aways. It makes me wonder whether the so call pet owners only want to keep their pets forFUN !!!???? ![]() |

Cool down guys....
I think the idea of 'keeping pets for fun' makes perfect sense! I have lots of fun being with my cat. He plays with me, he accompanies me, he makes me laugh, he helps me appreaciate love and passion more...etc. It's indeed FUN to have cats! People like to condemn and say whatever they want but what really matters is... we know we love our cats and they love us too. My friends once questioned why I keep my cat. They think animals should belong to the wild and outdoor and it's cruel to keep them as pets. I told them straight away that keeping cats and dogs is perfectly fine as they are domestic pets but not keeping tigers, horses and so on. What do you guys think? Hi Karl,
i think we r still at the cooling point still. no worries. it is good to hear other people's views coz it enriches our POV (point of view) n get to know someone in a way. Abt people say animals shud be in the wild n not captivity... well, as u said it urself.... ppl love to condemn n say whatever they want. Our main objective in here is to provide the best care to our cats n cats' characteristics r cunning n curious. They can definitely stay in the wild but the thing is, for how long? Indoor cats definitely live longer than outdoors PROVIDED they hv the best care in their food, health n well being. n yes, some animals can be domesticated n we need to choose wisely what can n what cannot. oh ya... terlupa abt Suzy... i understood hw u felt. we juz need to educate these people n shud they still want to be as they were, we can hope the best for the cat under such owners....

Yeap, that's all can be done. It's just like what we hear in our news these days.........new born baby thrown at a mosque or surau, the parent of the child hoped that some nice people will pick-up and raise up their child in a better way. This kind of acts can it be considered as noble thing just because they throw their baby at a holy place and the intention is good...........? A very sad world indeed............. |
