rimau is on a distinguished road
Default a terrible experience........

[B]hi, recently my 3 month old kittyboy which i named rimau escaped a narrow death. 3 days ago circa 4pm , i didn't feel quite right. i requested to back early from my office which was granted and decided that i may be coming down with a flu.
as i arrived, i notice only silence greeted me, instead of pleading meows from rimau who wants to be released from his room in the house.well, he must be sleeping i guessed.so i took shower and then i performed asr paryer, which all took about 20 minutes. then i went to his room to see what this mischieveous little creature is up to.
i almost choked by what i saw.rimau lied almost motionless with fast breathing and turning blue.he appeared very-very weak, with with his new stringy toy strangulating almost tightly around his neck. i immediately knew what can happen. so i quickly released his neck but he was very anxious, even managed to scratch my had in doing so! to my dismay, he started to throw a fit. it began with uprolling of eyeball and drrling of saliva. his neck was hyperextended and his back was arched. he convulsed with hypertonic muscle tone. the front limbs were hyperextended and his lower limb was crossing over each other. he bite his tongue and it truned blue. then he stopped breathing.
being a medical professional, i know what could this mean. i tried stimulating his breathing by flickering his paws and rubbing his back (which always work in human babies) but no respond. luckily i have prepared myself before getting a cat-i read about CPR to animals. his heart was still breathing and quite fast, but i took my stethoscope and i hear no air entry in his lungs. i immediately performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. he recovered but peed immediately. he was very weak and heartbreakingly crying. tears were dropping, his face was crooked in agony and he just wanted to sleep.
well, his brain was deprived from oxygen for i don't know how long and he might die or suffer from devastating neurological sequelae such as paralysis, permanent vegetative state or anything from what my human patient experience told me. i immediately contacted my vet, told them about what happen ad i am coming as soon as possible, though i was 100km away.
to cut the story short, he was admitted for observation, oxygenated in oxygen box and given drip. he suffered from fever, soft tissue injury and stress. i never saw him so sad, it broke my macho heart when he actually cried like a human baby. i was so worried, that night i couldnt sleep, thinking that anything can happen. it is still not over. but he is resillient. he was well by the very next day and discharged. but i know he is in pain, and he is now very manja to me (meowed in the house if he doesnt see me!)
so the moral of the story is - learn animal CPR, it saves your baby animal's life. and no stringy toys. FYI, i burned the toys in anger while he was rested in hospital!!!alhamdulillah, he is ok. just a little timid at the time being. [B]

My god !!! What an incredible experience, man! Luckily you know cat CPR. I'm a doctor too and I would have struggled just the same. Where are the anatomical landmarks to do chest compressions in a cat?

once i tied those stringy toys to cage and i observed my cat playing it. Luckily i saw what happened. This sort of toys can be potential killers like they can wound around the cats neck. They can get very excited pawing the mouse and don't realise it. Now i never let them play stringy toys by themselves.

Thanks God,your cat survived at last, hopefully no late side effect......

(Tak boleh bayangkan macam mana kucing U tercekik, macam dalam iklan aiskrim tu ke.)

I also have no idea on how to do CPR especially chest compression on cat but I swear if I have to do it,I will do the same way that I do on human......but with gentle compression......hopefully I will not have this experience with my cat.

Why don`t you upload your cat`s photos.......,he/she will be very gratefull to you my dear for saving his/her life.

Default alhamdulillah

thanks to your concern and wishes. rimau skrg dah macam biasa. tapi penakut sikit and tak seligat dulu. kalau tak nampak i, dia akan mengiau (?) macam orang nangis. cuma dia tak suka toleh kanan. lebih ke kiri. kuat tidur and kuat makan.
