Coda is on a distinguished road
Default This might happen a lot...

Okay, first off, hi everyone! I would like to start off by saying that I currently own one dog, named Twister. He is a schnoodle. Also, a hamster named Boo and my brother has one name Chinook. I want a cat. Not just a cat, a kitten. See, there's this convient store at the end of the street one away from us and their cat had a litter! She only had two babies and is a first time mom but they both survived. No one knows what breed she is and they didn't even know she was pregnant 'till two little babies popped out! They are 5 weeks old. They sold on already, but they're keeping the other one until she's 8 weeks old after my friend's mom spazzed at them for taking them from their mom too early. I really, really, REALLY want this kitten. She's a really light tabby, and I visit her everday. I made the mistake of naming her-Coda. She's so beautiful but my mom REFUSES to let me get her. I've begged and bargained and everything I can think of, but it's not working! I know that I should just forget about her but I can't! My mom said that it's too much extra responsibility for her. Plus my dad lost his job so we have no money coming in and my parent's got divorced about a year ago and are still working some stuff out. My dad is allergic to nearly everything, especially cats, so my mom has all the animals at her house. How can I convince her that a cat isn't that much extra work? And about how much money do you spend on food (for one cat) a week? Thanks everyone, bye! <3

Hi Coda, I am afraid that cats are much extra work. I am sorry about your mum and dad. Your mum is being realistic here. Her top priority now is making ends meet. I am sure that once the family has settled down and are financially stable, getting a cat wouldn't be an issue. I am sure your mum knows the expenses involved in maintaing a cat thats why she refuses. Expenses like food, litter sand, grooming, vet fees in the event your cat falls ill, etc can be quite taxing and as it is, your mom may feel that she is unable to cope with that. Morever, you mention that you have a dog. Dogs themselves are even more challenging to maintain. Another reason that your mum may not be in favour of a cat now is because I am sure that quite a bit of money has to go to the maintainance of your family dog so having another pet at this time will not be a good idea. Maybe when you have started working and able to provide for a cat, it wouldn't be a problem.
As for food and its weekly budget, it would depend on what brand of kibbles you are feeding with, they are many brands in the market and the cheaper ones are usually the non-premium ones that would make your cat sick later in life. A cat need to have both dry and wet food; a balanced diet. So a certain budget does need to be set aside to maintain a happy and healthy cat. I believe right now, your mum needs all the support and understanding from you to pull through in life together.

Exactly!

Do not keep any pet when you are not ready to provide what it needs. Be patient and I am sure you will have your dream cat when the right time comes
