I too support the campaign of neutering or spaying our pets.As u all know,I have 24 cats,most of them are strays,and some are mothers and kittens.Semuanya i angkut kat jalan.Truthfully,i don't go to the wet market,restaurant or kedai2 mamak tepi jalan coz i can't bear looking at stray cats begging for food then being ignored by most patrons.Rasa mcm nak bawa balik,but i'm not capable anymore to care for more cats since i've started working.Of course most of my cats are neutered,and some of them not coz they're still kittens.And i'm planning to neuter them when they approach 6 months of age(if that's safe enough).Lepas tu,tak payah nak risau2 lagi

wah pipi... lots of cats you have... i'm planning to have many cats myself as many as i can afford. when i have my own house, i'll built an enclosure and cat-proof my home for their safety.

currently i have only three cats + feed a lovely calico stray. i want to adopt the stray, but she is too garang la... maybe i'll adopt her kittens after they are born.

i also kesian at the cats tepi jalan, tapi kadang2 kucing2 kat kedai dgn gerai ni mcm ada owner (irresponsible ones!). so, terpaksa kesian je la... bagi aje la makanan kita sikit kat dia

Yup,catalina.Ada la bagi makan..Cuma i still don't have the guts to makan kat gerai2 or kedai mamak.Sometimes i can see patrons or the restaurant owner himself tendang2 stray cats.But most of the time i'd eat at fastfood restaurants or at home.Much2 better.Unless my officemate ajak makan,then i've to join them.Kena la jaga hati diorang kan.But if i have to,then i'll feed the cats.
What to do,we live in a world that is full of ignorance and lack of tolerance.

not all the stall owners are cruel people. i know that some of them even "bela" the kucing terbuang ni. one of my mum's friend got several cats at her gerai which used to be strays that curi2 makan. then she give the cats proper food, fresh fish and rice.

if every gerai owners like her, then it will be a better world. but most only have the cats as mouser... but never feed the cats for their services

Memang Bill,ada owner kedai makan yang curah air panas kat kucing2 yang minta makanan coz most people who eat there get annoyed with these stray cats.Bila kita cakap baik2 diorang marah kita balik.They shouldn't do that but for them,it's their rights to do anything they want as long kedai diorang ada customers.They won't care about this pun.

Based on the banter, so what I had mentioned earlier about NEUTERING your cats is more relevant than before.

If there was control in the first place, there wouldn't be any stray cats cari makan at the gerai-gerai right?

Just went to Bangkok a few months ago. You cannot believe the amount of stray dogs all over the place. Also, as they are Buddhists, they do not believe in culling, so the population keeps growing. Seeing all those mangy dogs broke my heart and I wonder, as a Buddhist myself, I think ending their suffering should be better.

I guess cats are less visible but nevertheless, too many kittens die unnecessarily due to careless handling of animals.

Hopefully this forum can be a spring board for our members to help educate other cat owners.

As it is already, the Jabatan Islam has said that it is OK to neuter cats as welfare and health of the animal in question is a priority.

If it is expensive to neuter at a clinic, try SPCA as they have cheap and good facilities there.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us, Gaudy. The issue you mentioned is not a new case and it is not a pleasant issue either.

I have seen it many times and have advised many people to neuter/spay their cats from many years ago – but many people just took it for granted. To make it worst, some people used my statement to fight using “religion” fact. The fact is, they never tried to understand the “religion’s” flexibility when come to necessity.

Every time I read cases related with animal cruelties, my heart beats fast and my anger rise up. But, as I said before in other threads, we, the citizens can only make the talking and petitions, but without the help in rules enforcers, none of this will take place.

Some times, we do not have to go too far - we do not need to look at strays. We can see the unjust situations from the cat owners themselves. Most claims to love their pets but how many are they really care to take them to the vet?

Assumptions.. ladies and gentlement! Assumptions that

“I can cure my cats by giving them panadol”
“I can make them drink by changing their water bowl”
“I can give hot meal when they had flu”
“I don’t need to give them vaccinations because my grandmother’s cats don’t need them but still alive until today”
“I can leave them roaming while going back home town because cats can survive”
“I can live in a 20th floor condo without netting but open up all windows and sliding doors because my cats are damn educated and they wont jump”
“My cats have 9 lives.. so, why worry?”

And so forth!

And when their cats died, they would say “Ajal dan maut di tangan tuhan….”

WHAT?????? That is the most stupid crap Ive ever heard but I hear all the times. I bet we all do.

The point for all my saying is, the only way to change all these is to educate ourselves. Second to be our friends and relatives, and next to strangers. Talk the talk guys, walk the walk!

I used to beat people who beat animals
I used to throw stones to people who threw stones to animals
I used to shout to people who attempted to hurt animals
I used to kick people who kicked animals
(Those are things I did when i was a little younger - do not follow my bad behaviour)

I may not be a nice person but whatever I did; it would not change the fact that ranting won’t change anything. We need to be united and hopefully someday, our voices would be heard and sad incidents like these would not take place again.
