Hello guys...
Need some guidances here... i plan to have my own cats in the near future... but up to now i still got no clue for which cat should i get... so, to make things easier for me to decide, i need all the helps from u guys here to roughly name the cat breeds according to the personalities that i listed here...; a. Hyper Active - no lap cat, always running around, jump here & there and quite 'destructive'... b. Active - not so 'destructive', still like to run & jump here and there but have a lap cat 'attitude'... in other word, can easily sleep on your lap... c. Inactive - i assumed this cat as a 'very polite' cat... hardly move and prefer to stay put most of the time... only move if necessary (like when it's time to do it's business or eat... )well guys... hopefully u can help me out... really need to consider a lot of stuff before bringing in any into my house... coz we are talking about long term commitment here... feel free to add or make any correction to the points above, so that i can get clearer picture... thanks guys... adios... ![]() |

Hi. When it comes to cats and personality and behaviour, I would say like human, it doesn't depend on the breeds. Every cat is rather unique from one another. Being active or not, depending on age, activities they like etc... You can have two persians which are totally different from one another. If you want facts, maybe you can get books about breeds and normally they state the personality/behaviour like what you have listed.

thanks for the info Psyfi... i know there are a lot of books about breeds behaviour out there... but i prefer the input came from someone's experience rather than juz by reading some 'stereotype' writen info... perhaps some of them are juz theoritical and maybe some are outdated as well... we'll never know... but don't worry... apart from this, i will search from other source as well... ![]() |

True dat. I used to research on that to before I got myself some kittens. But it seems not accurate, that's all. Let me describe a bit on my kids based on their breeds. 1) DSH - the brother is hyper active, mischievous, but not very vocal the sister is very quiet, sometimes is very active. Can be destructive when their powers combined. 2) Exo x BSH - very quiet, playful, but can entertain herself 3) Persian - very quiet (lost her voice since she was young), very active and can entertain herself most of the time 4) Bengal - hyperactive, quiet but sometimes can argue with us, doesn't like to be held 5) Mainecoon - noisy, hyperactive, but sometimes can be lazy 6) ASH -not noisy, very loving, loves to be held, playful 7) Exo LH - loves to be pampered, playful, not vocal However, all always seek for attention, and to make you give them what they want, they can be quite destructive and show tantrums. Sometimes, they gang up and become uncontrollable when they're bored.

Hi there,
I'm not going to go into details of the breed. Just my 2 cent, ask yourself first ; what kind of cat do you want to live with? a,b or c? then only if would be easier to choose based on the breed. example, if u want c type (inactive), then maybe you will consider to pick persian rather than bengal that falls under type a..got what i mean ?btw, just to share, i love b-type and that's what my cats are now.. ![]() |

Apart from cats activity, I am wondering if the cat will be exposed to children. Different cat breed has different attitude towards children. Also would you have time to groom your cat.
Consideration I tend to follow: 1. Noise level 2. Fur type and therefore grooming necessity 3. Active/inactive cats 4. Attention I need to give to them 5. Lap cat/non lap cat 6. Tolerance to children, which may also mean tolerance to your guess 7. Toilet trained The cat book by ASPCA is good to be used as a guide as to the above notes for each breed.
