I'm having a big 4 year old princess and will be getting a little prince/princess to accompany her...

Just curious though... does cat share their litter box? Or they need to be separated? A friend told me that her cats doesn't share so she prepared two separated one? Betul ke?

It is best to get 2 litter boxes for 2 cats.

Anyway to answer your question, YES, they can share the litter box.

I have 2 big and 1 medium size litter boxes at home and my cats (2 cats) are free to use any of those. But when you first time bring back the new one, it is common if the current cat seems a little unhappy to see the new comer sharing his/her "properties" including toys or even you.

After a while, they can be best buddies and even sleep and lick each other.

PS- About your friend's comments, I can say that it is also depending on how you train your cats to accept the new friends. It takes some time for cats to get along depending on their behavior too.

If it is just 2 cats, it shouldn't be a problem. I box will be fine provided the new one is already trained (normally). Just ensure that the litter box is big enough.

There are a few cases where the 1st Queen or Princess will NEVER share anything with the newbie. In anycase, you should be prepared.

Just incase your 1st cat is the fussy type, the longer you take to get another cat, the more time she needs to adapt to her new buddy.

for my cats, they do share the litterboxes. i have 8 cats, four big cats (almost a year old), one kitten (about 2 months old) and three one month olds.

but of course, now only five sharing the three litterboxes, one big and two mediums. i'm planning to add some more for the babies.

if you are rajin enough, the cats can share... i do the cleanup once a day, depending on the usage of the boxes. some of my cats do their thing on the toilet floor

Toilet floor?? Hihi...guess that saves time and money. I've seen on TV that some cats even know how to poo and pee in the toilet bowl...and even know to flush after that... Anyone's cat know this?

Well, the recommendation is that you have one litter box per kitty plus an additional one overall. But, it depends on what size your litter box is, the number of trips your kitty visits the box and the regularity of clearing the soiled litter.
When I brought home a kitten recently, I was a little worried that my cat, momo, would not want to share her box. But I was pleasantly surprised by momo's gracious nature.
For hygiene's sake, however, I have started to put out 2 litter boxes side-by-side for the kitties. One medium box and one small one. I clean at least once a day, usually in the morning while they are having breakfast. But it all depends on how soiled the boxes are. Nobody wants to go to a dirty toilet, right? It's disgusting.

I'm with momo on the one litter box per cat ratio. It would offer them some comfort everytime they step into one especially if you clean up once a day or if the number of cats you have certainly seems to leave you with an "overflow" in the litter boxes at the end of the day. If their' paws start picking up soiled litter or if they start doing their business outside their litter boxes; then it is time to increase the number of litter boxes.

I used to locate the boxes at different places in my home when I had new introductions but as time goes by, they will all learn to share the litter box in a common area to do their business.
