I just received a phone call from my youngest brother. Well, he told me that my Miko (the mix Siamese one) brought home a small kitty, probably abt 1 week old.....but.....the kitten was bleeding profusely!!! My mom was shocked and has a thought that my Miko went to one of our neighbour's house with the intention of killing the kittens...my God!! I don't know what to say. He's been so gentle to us, even to his brothers (Belang & Chitam).... I thought only the kitten's father might do that & definitely that's not my Miko's litter. He never go beyond our house compound... I'm afraid he might do that again. I would like to think that Miko didn't do it. It so happened that he passed by the kitten & bring the kitten home but it is not likely...
For the kitten, he/she died on the way to the vet. I'm very sad now.... Anybody expert on cat's behaviour?? |

Bill is correct.
In the wild, cats (all types including lions, tigers or non-domesticated felines) would kill the kittens in order to get the mom. It is a common behavior to almost all non-castrated male cats. (But doesnt apply to all, depending on the way we train them but usually behind us, only god knows) But dont be surprised, castrated male would so that too if he mistaken the kitten as a mouse. When I was in a primary school, I saw one of my mom's male neutered cat was playing with something looks like a mouse (from far). When I look closer, it was pretty surprising to see he was playing with a dead kitten as if like a mouse.(I dont know whether he killed the kitten or he found a dead kitten) That is why, I would never let my male cats (even if they have been neutered) to play with kittens unattended.

well, from what i know, that's the common behaviour in feline world. they do that in order to know that they can have as many offspring as possible and to ensure the continuity of their lineage. its like "sow the wild oats" in human term
if the female still have babies to nurse, she won't go on heat any sooner. so, the "tak tahan" male have to kill the babies in order to mate with her asap in the wild, in a pride of big cats, the cubs you'll see will be the alpha male offspring that's why, its common to see mummy cat hissing at males if she has babies... even the father of the babies. but i've seen one dad being so protective of his babies.... and the mum relax |

Yup...i heard abt male cat killed their/other offspring but...
my own kitty did that!!! And, what was worse, he brought back home his "prize"!!!! I'm going back to my hometown this weekend. Hopefully he'll not do that again. I want to send him for neutering but my mom won't allow me to do so. I thought may be by neutering him, he'll cause less trouble to the neighbourhood. I don't know. What do you guys think?? I just don't want him to bring home anything. Enough with the birds, lizards, sometimes small snakes!! But not kitten!! I'll try to talk to my mom this weekend.And..Bill, thanks 4 ur concern. It's been almost a month I've been free from sinus attack. I'll call that person next week kot, lepas balik dr kampung. TQ again. Last edited by azura : 20-04-2005 at 04:20 PM. |
