Default Hiss, spit, bite

Lately, whenever i I want to carry Melly back into the house after her walkies, she'll turn on me, hissing, spitting and trying to bite me. She's not the friendliest of cats but usually she only meows to protest. Is there anything to do with she's just recently been on heat and not fulfilled? How can i correct this behaviour? Even when i smack her or punish her by cutting short her outing (and only letting the other cat out), she doesn't look that bothered at all..you know some cats know when they're punished or being told off for misbehaving? Well, not Melly.

Al, my Miko behave the same way. He was on heat & not fulfilled. He turned out to be very "garang" & keep whining when we tried to pet him. I don't know for sure why...So, let's those who are expert on cat's behaviour answer.

I thought that when female cats on heat... they are more manja... well even though I have a lot of cats... they wont hiss at me or bite coz they know if they do that.... they only looking for trouble.... If they try to protest.. once I raise my voice normally they just sit quiet or run for cover.... .... if they fight then both side also kena.... My cats dont have problem with me... they only have problem with other cats... some are too protective... I'm not saying that we should punish our cat teruk2 or what so ever but you must tell them who is the boss... as I said before in the forum... dont let the cat naik tocang.... ... love got its limit.. do not spoil your cat too much otherwise it will be beyond control.

Tak semestinya jugaklah afi. I had a female cat once who really pissed off when we (her human buddies) try to make a physical contact with her!! She's just being manja2 when she saw male cats around...tergeliat sana sini like crazy!!! After the mating season over, she's back to normal. As to discipline a cat, i agree with you. Those who cause problems, we'll have to teach them. My cats will just retreat to their "sanctuary" whenever I raised my voice as well as my hand... They will stay there sampai tertido.... I don't know whether they learn the lesson or not but they just do not do the mistake again...(after a couple of times though!!)

Hi AL,
Maybe instead of 'punishing' her, you could offer her an incentive for returning to you. A favourite food treat or some catnip? Or maybe approach her very slowly and gradually until she eventually comes to you?
A big loving praise might do wonders.
Or perhaps your kitty is simply going through some romantic problems...
