I've got a local 5 months old male DLH and am thinking not to get him spayed, coz I might want to get another female cat for him later and I also learn male cats look more beautiful when they stay as it is and grow bigger too.
My ques is what would my regret be later? I live in a condo and he never gets out, only worries is the spraying, is it really bad? anyone wanna share thier experience wit me on this one, thanks Last edited by Jay : 12-09-2007 at 10:22 AM. Reason: Not Persian but DLH |

trust me, spraying is really bad on the nose. our nose, that is. i got two male cats at home in kluang, both already 13 months old. one has been actively spraying before his first birthday, the other just starting. the smell of my parents backyard is awful... i want to spay them next month... pls spay before getting the female, so you won't have to deal with kittens later. spaying is only one time fee Last edited by Jay : 12-09-2007 at 10:22 AM. i have a friend who have male cat... and other cats are female... the male cat never spray and never being spayed... when i asked him why is that... he said because nearby his house there are no other male cat around... and what i know is that male cat will spray to mark his teritory from other male cats.... so, when he smells other male cat nyer bau selain bau dia... he will spray....
nak tanya ler... ada tak sesaper sini yg ada single male cat.. i mean only one cat in your house yang spray?? kalau ada then i need to hantar my simba gi spayed... |

maybe your friend live in highrise kot... if landed property payah sket sbb stray byk... anyway i have read that males that are neutered also still spray, but not as smelly. if a neutered feel his territory is threatened he will spray still, there are heaps of neutering & spaying advantages, the only disadvantages cannot undo the thing then cannot have kitten |

i have 3 males at home and they dont seem to spray n hopefully they stay that way....if not, penat ler nak clean the marked area....
i heard that males do spray to mark their territories, and the ones that dont, well the owners tend to be the lucky ones.... ![]()

Thanks for the reply guys, so the conclusion is base on luck, if my cat will spray or not. Well its a gamble I'll have to consider...

1st of all, cats are cats and they are not humans and WILL NEVER be humans, and they do cat things that are NORMAL to them but absolutely NOT OK for most of us humans.
Spraying is one of many forms of marking, either territorial or even scent-marking. When a cat nudges us, it is actually scent-marking us. Cats are usually solitary in nature, and one male's territory may cover a few females' territories. Though cats are one of the most adaptable animals in the world, but turning them into indoor cats, suiting to our lifestyles, and furthermore making them live with other cats in close proximity, may lead to terms that we refer as behavioural problems. Castration is an option, as removal of both testes, will reduce testosterone levels, and it will reduce sexual stress as well as aggression, but the cat is still a male cat. Doing the castration before it starts spraying will have a higher chance of the problem not occurring at all, but NOT so otherwise. If you are lucky then it stops after castration. BUT STRESS (especially in multiple cat households) triggers of production of testosterone in the adrenal gland found above the kidneys, and therefore STRESSED castrated males cats, STRESSED spayed female cats and also STRESSED intact female cats, may SPRAY!!! |

Heshmael, thanks for the info, I've kept a DLH female cat for 11 years when I moved out to my own place my mom kept the cat so I ended up getting myself a new kitten but this time its a male which I've entirely zero experience wit male cat.
I do understand about male behaviour problem, hence the ques whats the tolerence level towards spraying, but from forumer replies it seems that its base on luck if your male will give you problem or not. Was only worry if I get my male spayed and he still ended up spraying then it would be a great dissapointment to me. Thats my dilemma! Last edited by Jay : 12-09-2007 at 10:26 AM.
