Last 2 days we just adopt another 1 stray cat(2 weeks old and her name is NIKKO).At this moment,i place NIKKO in the cage and only take NIKKO out while i'm at home.we are now having a problem where both of this cats is fighting(scratching, hissing , chasing, stalking each other and etc..) most of the time.
.Is this normal? Please advise what shall i do.Other than that, NIKKIT run out from our house this morning. She did this before quite number of time when she's horny. But i already spayed her since 3-5 months ago and after that day she never run out from our house. But last night she did it again. Luckly we found her in our neighbour's house.Do you guys think she jelous wth NIKKO?, If so how to handle this so that she not jelous and happy wth her new friendLast edited by ferrazo : 08-10-2007 at 09:58 PM. |

Cat sibling jealousy. Tis normal and expected. What i did when new kitten is introduced is to face them together with one person holding the other. Let them meet face first. They will try to run or hiss or scratch. Hold them by the arms. Then separate them again. Then introduce again. Maybe about twice a day. I would place them is separate rooms first then when I am home from work, introduce and change their rooms to the other so the are able to sniff the other's smell.
After a week to 10 days, they will meet without having to hold but under supervision only. If they seem to be okay, after 2 weeks i leave them to play together but still watch them from afar. Later.....they are just free to play together. Time duration may take longer depending on the time they need to get comfortable with each other. Good Luck

It is normal for an adult or teenage cat to run far away from a small kitten (Nikko is only 2 weeks) as if it is a ghost, as if it expects a superfierce mommy cat (U don't mess with a female with babies to protect in the animal kingdom! - my "normally terrified of humans" Caroline stood up to 3 huge dogs to protect her young kid, would have been mauled to death if I hadn't been around to boost her defence!) to suddenly jump out the sky and bash them to death!
All my FurKids completely disappeared out of sight (they normally hang around the house), out of the house, out of the compound, when I brought 2 miserable kittens home. In the end, the babies had to be moved upstairs completely away from them. Only then, they came back home one by one. But sometimes U have the adult kill the babies, especially a male killing the babies of another male (this is common in the animal kingdom where the male ensures the survival of his own genes). When a mother cat had a litter of small kittens in my back lane, all my FurKids (including all the male strays who normally roam and announce/advertise their machoness) also mysteriously stayed far away from it even though they themselves grew up and played there all their lives. I tried opening my back door and putting one FurKids at the back and she sprang back indoors as though hit by lightning. They behave as though the place is haunted! So, my brain is also busy performing some mental acrobatics trying to figure out what is happening in their little brains during the encounter ... Daian has given very good advice.

hmm.. looks like a normal 'cat' thingy to me .. everytime two cats meet for the first time, they WILL hiss and scratch at each other.. it is a normal thing, no need to worry too much about it.. just give it few days, believe me they will be sleeping together at the end ![]() |

I don't know if people will ever be able to talk to animals the way Doctor Doolittle could, or whether animals will be able to talk back. Maybe science will have something to say about that. But I do know people can learn to "talk" to animals, and to hear what animals have to say, better than they do now |
