A cat is about 8 to 10 inches in height, and using 500 muscles in its body, it can leap as high as 7 times its height which is roughly close to 6 ft. This means that it can easily jump up onto the gate post and from there jump down to the ground within your cat-proofed compound. As you said that your suggestion is a costlier one, I would say don't waste your money. Instead, stay alert (if you have the time) and chase the cat away. After a few "chase away" the cat's instinct will register that (s)he is not welcome at your place and that you would harm him/her in future attempts. Afterall cats are intelligent right? |

to the asker, yes, it a bit costly but will not cost a bomb as many of us malaysians just live at terrace house. if you have chain link fence, you have to net the whole stretch and if possible install a 45 deg metal bar with netting. can also be at both sides. if you have solid wall, about 6 ft high, maybe you can put a capping jutting out about 1 ft at each side so that the wall will be T shape. don't forget to net your gates. i saw many malaysians do net their fences and gates only about 3-4 ft but still deter cats and dogs from coming in. use plastic nets since wire type will easily rust and rust your metalworks too my own yard is not 100% catproof but no strays come in. i do this just to avoid my cats from escaping to other people's house when i let them out. i supervise them when i let them out

My dear, If you're the cat(s), which one do you think is more humane, putting you to sleep or let you live? Also BTW, I only half support the SPCA, at least in the US they have much better policy before putting the cats to sleep (I did take care of a cat when I was in the US, so I know this by fact). I'm only asking for a comment that really helps. If you were in this situation, what would you do? If you think that sending more than dozen cats to sleep, yeah, I'll accept your idea (although that'll be last of my choice). There are now 13 stray cats that have come to our house, and we even take care of 7 of them! If you have lots of money, before you tembak me on my decision to let them live, at least finance an institution which can collect all these stray cats, state by state, district by district, and decide what you want to do with all of them. I, in fact, did not feed my cats outside, and I did not feed the stray cats too, but then they still decided to stay. Building a fence is a very good idea (thank you for the idea) but it is still not commence-able since this cat can climb through small openings at my house let alone a fence. Anymore suggestion, please? Thank you |

Owh, this is a very good idea. Just that, we live on a 1/2 acre land, so it'll be quite costly (Hehe...there goes my money!) Many thanks!! |

guys.....i think another reason other than for food, why them strays keep coming back is because of being attracted to the scent left by the the resident cats...whatchamacallit....animal attraction is it..pheromones or sumthing?
.but will this still happen if the resident cats have been neutered/spayed...?
