At his age is a big possibility he is crying for is playmates/siblings......

In fact if you are use to having cats around you can kind understand the diff. sounds cats makes......aloudly meowing frm a kitten are often the sound of a lost kitten looking for it's family....and a mommy cat looking for a lost kitten would come in a lower and softer tone...and of cause there is also the very loud and vocal calls......for mating. And there are also other sounds as well. A talkative cat might also be meowing to tell you that it is in pain.

Btw why are you separating the mother cat from it's kitten before spaying.
They can be together till the mother cat goes to vet and aft op is better to let the mother cat have it's rest for minimum 3-4days and after that they can be together again.

as suzy said, probably he is having separation anxiety and crying out for mum and littermates. try to reunite with mommy and see whether this helps...

cats can have many sounds, but in my house a meow is quite rare... examples: my arwen usually open her mouth and "ark arghhh" comes out and this usually means gimme the nutriplus-gel. my garfield usually give out sound like "umm ummm ummm" when he is playing and according to my husband, only when i'm around. funny eh, got lots of meows but that's very rare sound!

The vet asked to separate so that she stops feeding and her blood vessel narrows a bit... less risk during surgery...

He meows sometimes yakking with the mommy... sometimes he follows his mommy's meow which is not the right meow because the mommy is in heat... and he follows exactly what his mommy does... meowing inside the food bowl, making those creepy sound...

I have spayed mother cats infact at the stage where the kitten were only 2 months old.....I wasn't required to separate the kittens.

As for the blood vessel.....a cat on heat is at higher risk to be spayed due to this. That's why is often advised not to spay a cat on heat.

And how! He's probably terribly, terribly lonely. Lots of attention needed...
