Unhappy My Jonnie STILL spraying even after neut HELP!!

Hi all..
I've just moved in to a new house & on the same day, sent Jonnie (1.5yro Siamese) for neutering at Setapak DBKL-SPCA Pusat Kembiri. Prior to the neutering, he has been spraying everywhere in the previous house and I've been diligently "monitoring" him every now & then to upkeep the cleanliness (which is very very taxing & triring!). I understand that after neutering, they won't spray everywhere like they used to. However, my Jonnie is still spraying which is very weird. Is this normal or otherwise? Also, he seems to have "feelings" for the female cats still. As far as I know, my Peanut doesn't spray after neut and same goes to Titi (both are DSH). Any ideas why he's behaving such a way? And oh ya, he still have fighting mood with everybody. I thought that after neut they won't be fighting with each other anymore? Could it be due to implications during the surgery that makes him gone berserk? Please do share with me if you've ever encountered the same problem after spaying/neutering your cats. Many thanks. Cheers!

Hmm, thanx Neyna. I think so too that he wasn't neutered til the end. I have to keep him locked in the room otherwise, the whole house smells bad! Not to mention the "sticky" floor. Sigh.

Default Cat sprays

Hi.

I'm one of those ppl who neutered the cats after they' ve come into adulthood. Actually i wasn't "educated" on the idea of neutering the cats, until a few yrs ago. And my cats had to be neutered mostly for health reasons i.e. their "thing" got scratched when they were protecting our compound by much bigger neighbors' cats, and the wounds didn't heal. So, off it went.
I was told that since they were already adults, they might still maintain their old habits i.e. fights, sprays, interest to mate, noisy miaowing, etc.
I found this true for some of them, although to a lesser extent. My cats normally spray outside at the fence walls, the bricks, shrubs, etc. They still do it. But they also do sit in their toilet properly too. The fights are much less, but they still try to maintain "our" territory i.e. within the fences, as usual. They roam less now. Since there's one more cat who is still intact, they seem to show high respect for this guy. So the positive side is that they are more at peace. Their interest to mate will normally turn to playful games.
But somehow, i can't help noticing that they can't run as fast or climb as deftly as they used to. So they have to hide when the big neighbor cats come. Seems like they can't put too much stress on their tummy muscles.
Don't know if i should check their internals now. But they all seem healthier and get less sick after being neutered.

Just my 2-sen's worth of observation.

From the little that i know, spraying is a learned habit. So it is good to neuter them before they reach maturity, that is maybe before 8months old, depending on the individual cat. Once they have learnt it, it is hard for them to stop the habit, again depending on the cat.
