I've read somewhere recently, can't remeber where though, anyway, it takes 5 generations to create a new breed. Meanind anak punya anak punya anak punya anak punya anak... heheheh..

Ok... anyway, the breed standard for Kucing Malaysia is, color wise all color, ekor mesti lurus, takde bengkok or senget or pendek.. muka bujur telur, not too pointy like siamese or flat like persian, I think more like scootish fold or amrican short hair la.. and the eye color must be blue.

I think the breed will be ready in 2007 or 2009 if I'm not mistaken.
I'll try find the article again and post ot here.

I jumpa ni, but this is not the one I read, bercanggah la plak.. anyway, ada banyak breed2 lain yg dlm process... quite a long list but quite interesting oso...

Hi fairra,
if i'm not mistaken, the government also planned to produce stamps with Malaysian breed cat pictures on it.I can't recall what year that was,but yup there had been news or rumours about that.Hope that it's going to be a reality, though

Default Piawaian Kucing Malaysia

Hey all,

I presume that this topic was left a long time ago but I feel like starting it back up again. I also read somewhere regarding our own local breed called Piawaian Kucing Malaysia. Went on an internet surfing spree but to no avail. The material on this particular breed is very little. Nak cari gambar pun susah. But at last, jumpa jugak one picture. Very blurred but still could see some disticntive features of the cat. Looks like a tonkinese to me. Wonder who has this breed in their house?

I got the following info from Malaysia Cat Club website.

The Characteristics of Kucing Malaysia or Malaysia Cat

GENERAL APPEARANCE
The ideal Kucing Malaysia or Malaysia Cat is a medium sized cat with
medium boned muscular body. The main feature will be the egg shaped head
and together with the openness of the eyes, should give the
characteristic alert appearance of the breed.

HEAD
Wide and rounded at the top with a good height and soft round lines.
Full cheeks, medium long nose with medium strong chin. Profile showing a
gentle convex curve giving an oval impression.

EYES
Medium sized, almond in shape with a good width set; giving an open
alert expression. Color should be blue or blue green with bleu
preferred.

COAT
Short and close lying, silky with nearly no undercoat.

EARS
Medium in size, slightly rounded tips with good width between. Flaring
out a little and with a slight tilt forward.

BODY
Medium in length and broad chest, with good depth and strong muscle
tone. High legs, medium to slender in size (more slender for females)
with slightly oval paws.

TAIL
Medium thick with a rounded tip, of medium length and up to the shoulder
blades. Tail should be full colored.

COLORS
All colors recognized in the Pointed patterns with white. A white blaze
in the face and muzzle is desirable.

The kitten on the second photo is mine.

Default Singapura/Kucing Malaysia

This is quite old and no-one from MCC has come in on it, so here goes. MCC presented the KM to FIFe in 1996 at the (FIFe) General Assembly which was hosted in Kucing. There was then and still is a programme aimed at producing a bicoloured, SH pointed cat which very much resembles the Snowshoe, in build and in colouration. In my observation they come both in cscs and cscb expression (which isn't too surprising!) Full generation, true-breeding status hasn't been reached yet.

Singapura - it was a wonderful PR story but despite having been present on various "Singapura hunts" in Singapore for a different US breeder who eventually only managed to acquire 2 ticked tabby males (which didn't look like the US Singapura) neither I nor (more importantly) and of the S'pore cat people had ever seen anything resembling the Singapura. I'm an Hon Overseas VP of SCC and have a copy of the SCC file on the origins of the Singapura...not at all like what you'll read in books!

as for the singapura cats, i read about it also, too many controversy. the breeder say they were expats in s'pore when they found the cats. bring back to US and start breeding with cats imported from s'pore... anyone meet the lookalikes in s'pore pls inform to verify... the breeder said the cats are local to s'porean harbour...
