it had been recognizes by England cat association (USA more earlier). and i know that persian chinchilla is one type of persian cat which was 'modified' from persian cat.tat's y ther got a 'persian' word infront of its name. i'm not sure whether it hav relation with pedegree or not. By the way, face of chinchilla is quite flat, and more adorable than persian....that's wat i feel of my own chincilla =) Last edited by angelina : 10-08-2005 at 01:51 PM. |

You've pretty well got it! But Catalina's statement about South Africa and the closed genepool is true. Their chinchillas were by and large stuck in a sort of time warp unaffected by the progress being made elsewhere in this colour/pattern of PERSIAN (its type standard reads exactly the same as a black for example, in just about every association) and those cats are homozygous silvers... I started breeding in 1964 with chinchillas and it was shocking to think of mating to anything but (black) chinchilla or black shaded silver!!!! (Of course, there are now also "contemporary type" chinchillas in SA.)
However, starting in the USA, matings to blacks, blues, etc, to improve type took over and now most of the world has chinchillas bred that way (back in the pedigree!) The hard fact is that a chinchilla should ideally have the same type as a best in show black persian. Lesley Quote:

That "chinchilla" is not a breed - it's a traditional, designer name for a particular pattern. Just as classic tabby is, for example. Chinchilla traditionally means a cat with inhibitor, which restricts (wipes out) the colour from the hairshaft except the tips, over the surface. It's an agouti cat and the babies are born looking tabby. And along with that goes tabby-style eye and nose outlining which remains, unlike the baby tabby markings.

Lesley,
Could you find Aussie breeders that have Persian chinchillas that look like this? (Non Flat face). And if you could, may I know the price for it excluding shipping. PS- I want a pedigree (Any international association will do, but the priority goes to CFA) PS2 - I am not rich .. dont quote me more than Aust $2000, please? After the convertion to Ringgit MYSIA plus the shipping, it sounds BOMB!

Jay, something with a face that length (sorry!) would probably be from a backyard breeder (which you should NEVER deal with!) and would cost maybe AU$250. Backyarders don't register and there's no CFA in Australia. The burmilla breeders in Oz are trying to find something like that to use with burmese in their programmes and are having zero luck. AND be very much aware that there are cats that look like that in Aust, called (cringe!) "Austiffs" but they are not recognised by the two major bodies in Aust and have burmese in the background. Sorry, I just can't help you, I'm afraid! L |

Backyard breeder? Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aa
Nobody ever hurt me like you do *sobb*. The cat in the photo is “Snowbell” the cat actor in “Stuart Little 1 & 2”. He is handsome.. damn beautiful! With that look, he can easily “squash-out” (in my opinion) all other flat face Persians. (If I were the judge) ![]() I never liked flat-face cats. I just want “Snowbell” alike.
