Question What colour?

Hi Lesley or anyone,
Just need to know what kind of tortie is my exotic kitten. I must admit I'm not very good at different variety of torties. Is she a tortie/tortie mackeral tabby/tortie smoke. I know what the normal tortie looks like which I don't think she is. His father is a red/white bicolour(carry tabby) persian and mum is brown tabby exotic (carry silver, smoke and black gene). I've brought her to my friend which is the stud owner and a breeder from Russia at 8w she said that she is a tortie smoke but her mum which is a CFA judge in Russia said that she is a tortie mac tabby. I'm getting confuse. I'm going to bring her back to the judge for her to look at Alyssa carefully in 4w time before I reg her with GCCF and CFA but I just need to know. Lesley if you can help I am still learning about this colour.

I am also learning to differentiate different colours in my kittens too. To me she looks more like a Tortie Smoke. Am I right, Lesley or other expert here?

Well, I'd say she's a straight black tortie...not tabby (look at her solid noseleather in a black area) And I can't see how she could be a silver (smoke) unless Dad is a low grade red smoke bicolour, because Mum sure isn't a silver tabby! I can't see any tabby effects anywhere.... except in red areas, which is perfectly normal in O gene cats. If they have tabby in the NON red (cream) areas, then yep, that's tabby....

Hi Lesley,
Thanks v much for the opinion. Mum does carry silver gene as thats what written in her GCCF pedigree cert- 'silver in pedigree'. Mum's dam is a black smoke. Dad has no smoke in pedigree. So thats why I'm a bit confuse.

Ahah! A cat can't carry silver - it's a very simple dominant. However some are so low grade that it can be hard to pick it. Which is why GCCF notes the fact there's silver behind her...here, we insert (s) into the reggo number to indicate that a cat COULD be a low grade silver. However, your cat is manifestly a normal black tabby (not black silver) so she can't contribute silver to the mix.

I understand now. Why didn't the GCCF people told me about this earlier as I did ask them what do they mean by silver in pedigree they said that she carries silver in pedigree why don't they just said that she might have a trace of silver in her pedigree.

She has more than a 'trace', with a smoke mum! But "carries silver" (in an obviously non-silver cat) is nonsense, sorry! Can't explain why the GCCF people didn't explain!!!
