Default Different Breeds Of Pedigree Cats

Abyssinian

The Abyssinian is an active, intelligent cat that loves people. Although they are quite beautiful, they are not content to lie around and just be admired. Abys are not always thought of as lap cats, but love to be where you are. They interact with their owners and often enjoy the company of another cat.
Abyssinians are often thought of as cats that like to be in high places, such as the top of a refrigerator or a bookshelf. They seem to be more inclined to use their paws like a human would use their hands. Abys are not known for being particularly loud cats and can communicate their feelings and desires in many ways.

It is often said that Abys have a great love of water. They seem to enjoy playing in a dripping faucet, as well as drinking from them. Loyal is often used to describe the Abyssinian and they make wonderful companions.

Default American Bobtail

The American Bobtail is a short-tailed cat, with a medium to large frame. Its tail should be clearly visible above the back when the cat is alert, not exceeding the hock in length. The American Bobtail is an excellent example of breed development through natural selection -- a completely domestic cat with no wild strains in its background. Affectionate and gentle, this young American will soon capture your heart.

Default American Curls

The ideal American Curl is a medium sized, alert animal with an elegant appearance and a sweet, open expression complimented by their remarkable ears. Both longhair and shorthair Curls have soft, silky coats, but the longhair Curl has the distinction of sporting a beautiful plumed tail. Because both coat lengths have minimal undercoat resulting in non-matting hair, grooming an American Curl is easy -- an occasional bath and combing is all that is needed. Care should be taken when handling the ears to avoid breaking the cartilage -- do not force the ear into unnatural positions.

The Curl's temperament is one of curiosity and companionship. Being very people-oriented, they like to assist in all household projects and delight in "bumping heads" with their owners or new human acquaintances. Curls are even tempered and intelligent, yet they retain their kitten-type behavior throughout their adult life. Not overly talkative, the Curls will tell you when they need something or desire attention. American Curls easily adapt to almost any home situation and adjust to other animals remarkably well. Simply stated, they are extremely affectionate and absolutely ear-resistible!

Default American Shorthair

Personality: Sociable and affectionate to quiet and sedate. These powerful cats are widely considered easygoing and able to blend into any living situation. Willing purrers, they spread their love freely.

Appearance: Ideal American Shorthairs exude symmetry. Females tend to be smaller than males. The breed standard calls for cats to be slightly longer than tall. The face should be full-cheeked with an open expression. Eyes are medium to large in size and mostly round with an almond-like curve at the top.

Default American Wirehair

Personality: Loving and people-oriented, American Wirehairs like to be in the middle of all you do. Each needs one-on-one time. They love playing with anything from shoestrings to fancy toys and can create a toy from a clump of dust or a wad of paper. If these playful clowns can't get your attention immediately, they will work their magic until you notice. At a young age they often learn to give head butts, hugs and kisses. Wirehairs sense their human companions' moods and are always there to offer comfort.

Appearance: Outcrossing with the American Shorthair has influenced the body structure, producing a medium, well-muscled cat. The coat feels harsh and springy. Individual hairs are crimped, hooked or bent, including the hair within the ears and the whiskers. Of the 100-point scale used to describe the ideal cat in the standard, 45 points are assigned to coat - more than any other breed. Beyond the coat, the most visible difference is its very prominent cheekbones.

Default Birman

Personality: Friendly and affectionate, the breed is considered a comfortable blend between energetic shorthaired breeds and more subdued longhaired breeds.
Appearance: Birmans' silky, medium-to-long coats are remarkably manageable. Medium in size, Birmans have sweet, rounded, brilliant-blue eyes, a firm chin and a heavy ruff around the neck.

Default Bombay

Personality: Smart and agile, they often retrieve and will seek out interaction with humans. Visitors' purses or packages are thoroughly inspected. Head bumpers and nose rubbers, they love nothing more than to be held. Some can be very talkative and they have a distinctive voice.
Appearance: The Bombay resembles the Burmese much more than it does the American Shorthair. The cat should move sinuously and sensuously. Like the Burmese, they are solidly muscled and surprisingly heavy. The head is rounded and should not be quite as short as the Burmese. A slightly longer body adds to the pantherlike appearance. Eyes may be gold or copper. Close lying and satiny, the coat must have a high sheen like patent leather. Occasionally kittens will be sable, not black.

Default British Shorthair

Personality: Often referred to as teddy bears that purr, British Shorthairs are even-tempered, loyal and quiet supervisors. They love to be near their owners, but not necessarily on them.
Appearance: Compact, well-balanced physique with wonderful rounded features, a short, plush, resilient coat and a hint of that famous Cheshire grin.
