Yours dont have any certificate right?.
If got certificate of couse it is Maine Coon but if not may be you can call "Maine Coon look a like"...
p/s : post some picture of ur cat in here..than we can share with you and give advice...

while i agree with CC & doink, sometimes juz by looking at a cat may not seems to be he is suppose to be, especially for an untrained eyes. a pure MC n a crossed-MC hv similar looks. anyway, there r some unresponsible breeders who juz want a quick $$ may juz simply breed their MC with other females (non-MC) n they claim the litters r MC.

A pedigree cert wud determine and protects a cat's pure-breed but if a cat does not hv the cert, then the next best thing is to show ur cat to a cat judge. Perhaps u can snap some photos of ur cat; face (close-ups from the front n sides) n entire body.... some pure MC breeders here cud guide u fr there n not forgetting, we hv an Australian judge here as a forumer that might shed some light...

Up steps Oz judge........... I have seen a number of indisputable MCO in S'pore and KL petshops - no question about what they are (although not great ones!) sadly, mainly imported from our rogue breeders in Oz. IF you buy them, in most cases you'll get a breeder pedigree (no good for registering it) and in the peds I've viewed, I've seen interesting things - such as an HCM line doubled up on, with a bit of HD thrown in for good measure (if you don't know peds, then you'd never pick it, of course) Mind you, how many of these are actually the kittens described in the pedigrees...well. Who'd know? They could well be offspring of the cats named, bred locally. The breeder peds should have a microchip # on them, though, and it's easy enough to scan and see if the alleged kitten is of the same chip ID.

Neko, without certificate, your realization is not right. You cannot just say "I realize that A looks the same like B, hence, A is a B".

Maine Coons are cats and cats tend to look alike. There are many forumers here have cats that look alike Pedigree Cats, there no secret about it, youre not alone.

But without proper prove (pedigree certificate), you cannot call the cat with any Pedigree names.

I agree with crazycat that from the way you use your "word" (realize), you cat has no cert, so again, we will have to say, your cat is NOT a Maine Coon even how same the cat looks like. Sorry.

PS - How much and where do you bought the domestic longhair cat (the look alike cat), if you dont mind telling us? And also, do post the cat photos, I am sure we all like to see.

oh yeah... shud anyone wonder what is HCM n HD.... HCM is Hyper Cardiomyopathy (heart related problem) and HD refers to Hip Dimensia (weak hips / lower abdomen). These 2 diseases r very common to MCs n MCs need to be certified free of these disease b4 they were adopted; otherwise, it wud be a problem in the future for both the cat n owner as well...

Hello guys,

I adopt my cat from SPCA and surely without certificate. I quiet suprise that we cannot simply claim our cat pedigree cats without the cert. If that so I attach photos of my cat, please indentify what is my cat breed...
