I have always interested in getting a cat but only recently, I am able to materialise this dream. So, I have done an initial research on cats that suit my lifestyle.
Basically, I need a cat that is good with other pets as my brother has a young miniature schnauzer. And also, this cat has to be family/children friendly as my sister has a lil baby in the family. So, this cat may as well be very sensitive ans smart with people's moods. And so, American Bobtails are the answer. I am wondering if there are breeders in Msia for this breed? If there isn't, anyone know if I can find this breed of cat in the petshop? HTML Code:

i dont think u will find it in m'sia. its pretty "rare" around the world. most breeders are in the usa. they are not yet recognized completely under cfa. but are in the provisional division. this "lack" of popularity also means pet shops have no idea what it is.

do your research thoroughly and pls ask around before buying a pedigree pet. buying from a petshop is a big mistake!

do note that whatever cat u buy... the breed characteristics are only "guidelines". there are cats of a breed which do not have that same personality. its mainly down to breeding, socialisation, the lines involved in breeding.
there are many breeds which "get along with kids".. that are "doglike". But how an owner introduces the cat into the new household is also crucial in determining how the cat may react to certain stimuli. u cannot expect a cat to tolerate having its tail pulled and in the end conclude that there is "something wrong with it" when it scratches the baby. instead u must teach the kids how to handle the cat.. look our for signs of irritation in the cat.. learn how to properly introduce a cat to a household with a baby etc. only then does your breed profile come in.to support the basis of your hard work.. do not depend on a cat's supposed personality. it is more rewarding when u understand your cat as compared to not knowing what to do when things go horribly wrong. infact there are many cats out there..stray cats, cats of other breeds, which meet your "requirements". go to a shelter/breeder, have a look at the cats and parents if possible. see for yourself which is the gentle/active etc cat and decide which would suit you. there are always different "personalities" in every litter |

I do understand your concern about the guidelines of the personalities of the cats. Due to lack of knowlegde and communication with cats in recent years (I don't see much stray cats or even household pets in Australia), it is necesary that I rely my judgement of choosing a cat based on those available guidelines.
Provided that predigree cats have generally generally good or more tracable personalities that I could refer on, I think that they won't be way out of line from the claimed guidelines. The upbringing of the cat itself is one of the main influencer to shape the cat's personlity. I will take that into account. Thanks for reminding me ![]() Anyway, thanks for your replies. It's a disappointment that American Bobtails aren't common. But still, I will continue to search for the right cat for the family and myself. ![]() |

yes you may use those guidelines.. but there are also other factors which can determine your cats personality. anyhow whatever cat you get.. do make sure that u properly introduce them to your household and teach the kids how to behave around cats.. cos its not gonna happen the other way round.

Yup, thanks.
And today, I went to Pet Wonderland in Subang Parade. And yup, they don't know American Bobtails, but American Curls. And those American Curls they are importing them for $22000 each. Shocking ![]() |

if u wanna consider a curl ur better off getting from one of your local breeders of curls. there are a couple of breeders on this forum. u can just pm them and ask them about the breed.. their personality and their experiences with curls.
