CC,
Any cat having red & Black on fur is consider tortieshell. In order to get tortieshell with white, you need some white spot on the body. Hope it's help. ![]() Ist photo - tortieshell 2nd photo - tortieshell and white 3rd photo - Calico (Another type of tortieshell & white) Last edited by Shadow : 19-03-2006 at 11:49 PM. |

tortie - red and black
tortie and white (calico) - red, black and white torbie - tabby version of the above (tortie + tabby)

Correct. To differentiate between tortie and torbie, you need to look at the black colour part. If the black has tabby pattern then it is torbie. The red colour part normally have tabby pattern even in tortie.

a few silly questions
If it has like only 1 to 3 patches of red, can it still be called a tortie ? Any degree/amount of red that a black cat has to have for it to be called a tortie ? What if it's not really red but cream ? Can you call it a tortie ? Or should it be called a black cream cat ? HELP !

dilute tortoiseshell is dilute of black and red. It is also called blue cream. In dilute torbie, the blue part will have tabby pattern.

A cat with only 1 to 3 patches of red and black, normally has a lot of white as well. The cat will be called calico or tortie and white. As long as it is red and black mixture, it is called tortie. Normally, it is black with red. Cream goes with blue to become dilute tortie.
