To me the term non-pedigree <breed name> can be only given to a cat that has a photocopy of the cat's parent certs but the cat itself don't have one. Others "resemble more" should use these terms instead
<breed name> look alike <breed name> cross or stick to the 3dees dsh dslh dlh just my RM0.02

Oh yes! I know what you mean I am not surprised if this is happening here in Malaysia as well, Malaysia Boleh right? For those who doesnt understand, the scenario is like this: Breeder A has a a newly born litters from pedigree Persians parents. Arsehole B has a newly born kittens from a non pedigree Persian parents. Since both are friends, and a f**cking liars, Breeder A 'helped' register Arsehole B kittens together with his kittens, as if like all coming from the same parents, the pedigree one I mean. And all the parents, both pedigree and non pedigree same colours thus making it hard to determine if the kittens are fake! Then how do we know now? Of course Breeder A can help sell Arsehole kittens the same price like pedigree price now, right? So, how now brown cow? |

It happens, for sure (though not necessarily because one parent isn't registered...this happens with Exotic LH on occasions when they're not allowed to be called Persians, I've heard from VERY authorative sources!) but if people DNA test persians for PKD, they can also have parentage testing done.......

Microchipping? The registry would have records of the cat and one hopes that either the family knew which cats were which or (much preferably) microchipping would tell the story. And back to DNA parentage testing and databases....

OK - I asked the question before in passing, but let's explore this one.
How many registered breeders on the forum test for the following (the most basic, to begin with) : Persian/Exotic/British/Fold/Scottish SH - PKD (by DNA) Ragdolls, Maine Coon, Siamese, Ori - HCM (MCO by DNA and/or ultrasonography) Maine Coon - HD I may be howled down, but I think that if there's a disease which is likely to occur in a particular breed, a truly responsible breeder will test for it and that (IMHO) is part of what might seem to be higher prices - you should be buying something as healthy as possible with no genetic defect stone unturned. DNA testing (as per breeds/diseases above) might not be available in Malaysia/S'pore, but it's a small ask for breeders to send swabs offshore. My cats were PKD tested (USA) just before the service was available in Oz, but now it's available, at half the price, I figure that every Oz breeder should be re-confirming negative ultrasound results by DNA test. And the same goes anywhere else, where cats have only an ultrasound cert for PKD or even HCM in MCO.

No......????? Sorry...not quite grasping the point. Parentage testing would define things in the case of a dispute or switching of cats...
