oh forgot to mention one important point. most of them are usually foundation cats. aka found in russia/siberia and deemed to be pure siberians by the russian clubs. they are certified by them and given an original rodoslovnaya. so that's why they have no prefix.. cos they dont really come from any cattery

Malayan: The Malayan is simply a Burmese in all the Burmese solid colors except sable (and chocolate in Britain).

Malayan Persian: Old name for Himalayans/Colourpoint Persians given to a white Persian x Siamese cross in America in 1924. The name reflected the Siamese/Oriental origin of the new variety. In 1957, Himalayans were recognised in America; in 1955 Colourpoint Longhairs were recognised in the UK. The name Malayan Persian was dropped in the US and "Himalayan" (the name of the colourpoint pattern as found in rabbits) adopted instead.

Malay Cat: Bobtail cats from Malaysian peninsula, very similar to Japanese Bobtail. Reported in 1881, but not adopted as a formal breed. See Piawaian Kucing Malaysia for Malaysia's home-grown cat breed

Malaysiana: According to a US judge in Kuala Lumpur, a breed being developed in Malaysia (1996). Looks like a small tiger with mackerel striping and athletic, moderate, Abyssinianlike type.

- browse through CFA website, but didn't see any Malaysia Cat only Singapuras...possibly still under development?????

malayans are different.. not what i meant. not malayan persians either.. malay cat.. i dont even think this is categorizes as a breed? it wld probably be malaysiana.
well they are being developed.. and they arent recognised at all..
the singapura was created in the 70s and is one of the breeds which u cant even find in the country of origin-unless thru a breeder. to be recognized someone need to go make a presentation to the CFA board mtg held each feb.

Default breeds & pedigree

such an enlightening and interesting thread!

i own a dlh and for me personally, i'd want to know the breed of my cat so that i can cater to the breed specific traits and needs if any. see even if they are not registered, these non-pedigree cats have caring owners too who would want to know how best to take care of their animals.

Its the same for dogs as there are also unregistered pure breds but i guess dog breeds are quite easy to distinguish compared to cats?

my 2 cents

thanks

I agree with Smokey. I can only suspect that my DLHs are part NFOs, but it will be so much more helpful if I knew for sure which breeds they came from. I wish I knew all of this before getting my cats, but on the other hand they are so loveable anyway that I can't imagine not wanting to have them.

Default A comparison?

Just like the thread title, it surely IS 'controversial'!!

I think to comically define it would be: (esp for Harry Potter- fans)

Pedigree= Whizards & witches (pure bloods or half blood as with munchkins) with wands/ magical powers(ie certificates), hence the ability to enter Hogward (Certificates awarding bodies).
i) Show Q
ii) Breed Q
iii) Pet Q
Just the varying degree of ability to perform magic ( ie to win places in shows)

Pedigree-lookalike or paperless cats= Whizards & witches (may be pure blood or half blood) with No magical power = SQUIBS.

DLH / DSLH / DSH cats= MUGGLES ie non-magical people running in the streets or living in ordinary homes..

P.S: I initially wanted to compare with the royals but surely i kena bambu!
