Question American Longhair

My hubby was standing in line to pay for cat food yesterday when and striked a conversation with a man saying that he was breeding American Longhair and Persians. It struck me, I've never heard about that breed before. Does it even exists or that man was doing his own experiments with ASH and Persians? In his defence where at last I was there after browsing the store, he said to my hubby that most of his cats have been neutered and that they are already old and that he had stopped breeding but I didn't believe what he said. Plus, he only neutered/spayed 7 of them and not all. Weird.

Anyways, I just wanted to know is there such breed as American Longhair?

That's right. I can't google it either. Only found a couple of pics without any info about it. Why aren't there any ALH(American Longhairs)? Is it because the combination of producing such a breed is fatal to the cats health? I wonder if it's a banned breed. hmm..

Gee, you're right BroC. I found this:
Quote:
...has also been known as American Longhair, American Shag, American Forest Cat, American Snughead and Maine Trick Cat

from this site
Well, if that guy really is breeding MCs would be a mystery to me. Sigh. I still don't get it why he didn't say he was breeding MCs and instead saying American Longhairs which isn't widely used here.

Well as far as my research in Maine Coon that the MC is actually a AMERICIAN FOREST CAT.... Well maybe is was mistaken call American Longhair.. as the MC was origin from the american forest...

Here is a info....
I adopt from a website
One of the oldest natural breeds in North America, the Maine Coon is generally regarded as a native of the state of Maine (the Maine Coon is the official Maine State Cat). A native American longhaired cat the Maine Coon was recognized as a specific breed in Maine where they were held in high regard for their mousing talents. Through nature's own breeding program, this breed has developed into a sturdy cat ideally suited to the harsh winters and varied seasons of the region.
