Question 3 weeks and 400g

Hi Forummers,
Buttercake getting heavier surely, and very active. I need some advice on the next step on caring for B.

Been reading up on what to expect for growing kittens. The books says to give powdered cat milk substitute upon reaching 21 days old. Is it really necessary or will mum's milk still be enough?

And I've been caging mum and kitty together. Should I be letting them out in an enclosed area eg. kitchen?

my three baby cats are already five weeks olds. i don't give them any substitute milk yet - mom still feeding the three of them. however, i've seen them eating the some kibbles and steal the weekly treat fancy feast... much better than trying to eat my feet!

i didn't cage my cats. i let them roam inside my room. i took precautions though my baby cats already explore the surrounding since they started to walk, at around two to three weeks. now they are a naughty bunch! climbing here and there...

mom-cat took care of their whereabouts, so i'm not really worried. when i call their names, they answer with little "mius"

and just started to pee and poo

Hi Abby,
Sorry u miss them. But I'l give him a hug from his aunty Abby

Seems like mum's milk is the recommended stuff. So I'll just let nature continue its course.

Wow, Cat, yr mum-cat is very good with the kittens. Did she try to hide them? The first time I let them alone in the hall, Ally carried B behind the tv cabinet. Took me some effort to retrieve him as B was deposited in the narrow space So it's back to the cage when I'm not with them.

hi ally,

from my observation, my mum cat never hide her kitten. right after birth until two-three weeks, the babies stay inside the pet carrier. i lined the carrier however everyday since birth i visit and hold the babies. the mum don't bother

when the babies started to crawl around, they claimed my room then started to hide under my wardrobe... they also claimed my rugs as their sleeping place... if i call, they come out of their hideouts... so, i'm not worried as i know they'll be around my room or just look underneath the wardrobe

however, mummy seems not producing a lot of milk nowadays, or perhaps she's weaning them? she keep running when kittens wants to nurse... i'm thinking of buying milk replacer and nursing bottle coz giving them babycat kibbles is not an option. my other cats keep stealing kibbles from the babies' dish

Hi Ally,
indeed mum's milk is very good to the kitten. I do not think u need to give B commercial cat milk. U only do so shud the mum in whatever reason refuse to be milked. when the kitten slowly grow up, u can give B kitten food n from there, u can c how rocketly B will grow... trust me on this...

Tks, H.

And Cat,
So jealous of u lah...got a family of kitties Take good care of them now.

This morn, I saw B taking a sip of water from the bowl

Now my next worry is what to use for the litter pan for B. The one I bought is suitable for both Ally and B, but it's uncovered and Ally makes a mess of it So I don't intend to use it. Any ideas?

well, it is a good start for B to start drinking water. as for the litter, get a covered one but u must train the kitty to use it still. They might be blur on how to get in n out fr the kitty litter..

i am kinda bz alway, so can't keep an eye or two at the kittens. perhaps i should try

since B have made it to sipping water, i believe he will make it... cross our fingers
