Default touching new kittens

hi, my cat has just given birth to 5 kittens yesterday and i am not sure whether i am allowed to touch them, she is looking after them fine but i just want to touch them...

she happily lets me near them, but i have heard stories that mothers abandon kittens if humans touch them in their first few weeks....is this true....or just a myth??

in other words....can i touch them yet? or if not how long should i wait?

As long as I know you can touch them, but try your level best not to disturb the kittens too much or else the mommy cat will try to shift it's kitten to another place.

It depends on the breed, how good the mummy is, and how much the mummy loves you! I touch my kittens (now 6 days old!) to weigh and check their general condition especially now that the eyes are open. If the mummy loves you a lot, she wont be to anxious when you carry them and wont move them to a 'safer' place. Don't do it too often though!!!

Agreed!
Most of mummy will let the owner to touch her kids. Unless for cat's mama is a nervous wrecked female.
I touch my kitten even in the first day they are born to this world.
But as much as you could minimize the handling so that the kitten will having some good time suckling.

You can touch the kittens as soon as they were born if the mother lets you. You should check that everything is perfect including the toes. I weight my kitten everyday. But you just need to touch the kitten only for a while as it need more time with mum for feeding and warm. But don't let all the people in your house hold the kittens until it is about 2w of age as mum won't like it especially children as they don't know how to handle a vulnarable baby kitten properly.
