Hi I'm new to this site. I was wondering if there is any chance that my tabby (Persian Burmese mix) may be paired with a Persian? She is currently still young (4 months +) but I'm sure that she'll go into heat in a few months time....

Hi Jacky
Before deciding to get into breeding, you should read up on genetics. It's always important to breed for health and temperament, not only for colour/type. The best way is to read up as much as possible about the breed that you're interested in. Breeding a persian/burmese back to a persian is considered cross breeding. In simple terms, it means you are breeding two different breeds together. Also known as mixed breed. Now there are a few types of breeding methods: Line Breeding Inbreeding Common Ancestor Outcross Cross Breeding Hybrids and Carriers Here's a link that will prove to be useful for you if you wish to know more. I wish you the best! http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/...ic/basicgen.htm You could very well end up with babies that look like Ragdolls (a hybrid breed) but it's hard to determine due to the fact that I don't know the history of your persian/burmese cat. The Ragdolls were created by crossbreeding Persians, Burmese and Birman cats with random-bred domestics. They're very pretty. So genetics isn't all boring and I always love talking about this subject with people Keep us updated with your litter in the near future~~Last edited by missa : 29-09-2004 at 07:28 PM. |
