NEUTER/SPAY - Please Advise
Dear All,
Recently, I had sent my cat for neuter in one of the clinics in Kuantan. He's 6 months old and had healed completely. My question :- 1. The Vet advised me not to neuter my cat at the very early age (before 6 months). She said it will affect the cat potential growth. The best age is 8 months and above. But, from what I read here, some suggested even as early as two months old. I have one DSH 5+ and would like to neuter him now. Please advise. Thanks.

I have neutered and spayed as young as 3 months (1kg) - all the cats are strong and healthy - you may recall my Suria whom you saw at the last two shows...Suria was neutered at 4.5 months...and as you have seen he's grown up to be a gorgeous young man
 I will say that some breeders of slow maturing breeds, prefer to neuter later at around 6-8 months but personally I've not seen any difference in maturation in all breeds/domestics.

I believe it will not effected to the growth of the cats. However, some vet don't want to neuter the cats below 5 months as some of the cats testicles is not very visible and due to their expertise.
However, some people choose to wait until they can see the sign of male character (broad face etc) to develop before choose to neuter, this is quite risky, because when they start to have the 'maleness' habits..is quite hard to overcome it even after neuter.

Early neutering/spaying also means faster healing for the cat.......lesser pain too. I've done my at young age too, they grow fine. Especially the males the come back frm vet like nothing took place. But you just have to make sure your vet can perform early neutering.

It doesn't matter how visible they are - it's whether they're descended and you can feel them (and consequently, see there's something there!) Good lord - if a male isn't descended by 5 mths in most breeds, Houston, we might have a serious problem!
