Default Advice on mating kitties

I have finally found my future son-in-law for my Melly..to forumers who have in some ways trying to find me a male cat or wanting to lend me theirs, thanks very much...manala tau kalau2 tak menjadi nanti, boleh la try dengan yang lain pulak..

Just a few questions since neither me nor my besan is knowledgeble:
1. How long will the mating process take place? One week?
2. Both are first timers, will they know what to do?
3. Are there any do's or don'ts?
4. Can mating couple tolerate other cats?

Hi Al,

As far as i know (through my observation for as far as i can remember), normally the male cat will only want to mate with 1 female in one season (it's more like "chemistry") though in some cases the male might want to mate with more than 1 & vice versa. Therefore, it is advisable not to put another cat near "the couple" esp if that other cat is also in heat. The male might leave the "intended" female to chase the other female or the male might fight with the other male. If the chemistry is right, u can see the male will be very determined to get "his girl"... It can be funny though...

The process might take days/weeks (2 weeks or so), depending on how they do it... Usually when the female has already showing signs of not wanting any male near her and she stops wriggling/squirming and calling for her mate, than i think the process is over.

Don't worry, they'll know what to do naturally just like they know how to eat, drink, etc.

hello AL..

The mating process is easy only. No need to pening pening one...Just let the couples together and leave them in peace ...Dont Peeping HUH!!! hehehe no lah just kidding!

okay normally it will take few days (1-3 days). As my experienced I just let them together 3 times a day only for 2 days. then after the second day the female stop calling and no more dramas in front of the male..so no more mating process

But in other cases this female will mate with other male and when the times to deliver you will get both males genetic. so if you dont want or just want to have the specific genetic...after the mating ..please make sure cage the female until she stop calling.

happy me- mating

Updates on Melly's weekend rendezvous.

Sad to say that most probably Shiloh and I won't be granny anytime in the near future...Melly didn't quite fancy TitiBoy and hissed all throughout their meeting (i left Melly overnight at Shiloh's)..can't understand why..don't know whether she's playing hard to get or plain crazy..for Titiboy is what you'd like in a son-in law...all cute and angelic looking with a temperament to match. He couldn't understand the hostility he was getting from Melly!

Well Catlover, it's harder than i think! Tak tau apa criteria si Melly ni...she's still miaowing and rolling all over the place at home trying to catch Monty's attention (who unfortunately is only half a boy if you know what i mean). Probably i'll wait for her to be in heat next time and try to find her another mate...kalau tak jadi jugak, that's it..snip snip!

That's what I'm trying to tell you in the first place. It's all abt chemistry. Some cats can be very easy, some...well...they play hard to get...and some, they really don't like the male that we introduce to them. So, all in all the mating process might take weeks (normally 2 weeks or so if the female is playing hard to get). They will hiss all the time until the "moment" is right. I've experienced that a few times with my kitty. My neighbour's hero came everyday to our house. Even sleep in our house for that matter & just ignore his owner calls for him. My female kitty really gave him a hard time..heh...heh...but he was so determined, and at last, after a few months, my Debab gave birth to a cute little kitty that has her dad's fur (the male cat is Persian) with mom's marking....
Just be patient. May be u can try to separate Monty from her. All the best!!

Chemistry. Melly is really pretty. TiTi is not too bad looking. But Melly did not find him to be the right guy for her. Since Melly left TiTi has been sniffing all the places she occupied. I keep telling him, it's too late. He should have made his move when she was here.

Does it really take up to two weeks for the male and female to hit it off? Maybe we should have waited longer... The whole time Melly was with us she did not do any of the rolling about on the ground i.e not "in the mood for love". Sorry AL.

The search for kitten grandchildren continues...

Well...cats do not favor looks... They use their smell instinct, just like how they recognize their litters or even you. And, yes...for those who's playing hard to get, they need more time. That's why it is advisable to keep them alone (separate them from other cats). Lucky for those who can get their cat pregnant just by leaving them to mate without any trouble. Unfortunately, some are really fussy in choosing partners.....
