Sorry, not cat matters here but related to adopting fee at SPCA Selangor. A friend of mine went to SPCA and wanted to adopt a puppy. He said that the puppy may be of a good breed but the adopting fee is RM500...
is that possible? I mean the whole purpose of SPCA is to rescue cats and dogs and try to find them good homes. If the fee is RM500, who can afford? Any comment on this matter and is this really true? maybe the person he spoke to is someone who wanted to get some money from working in SPCA. If it's really RM500, I think that's a rip off...We shouldn't be paying so much just to provide some abandoned pet love.. |

Uhm.. RM500 is expensive. Perhaps Mary could give some explanation on this. I agree to pay for adoption fee but RM500, I think it is a little too much for it.

RM500 is a little too expensive for adoption fee... it's like the cost of buying a shitzu puppy.
i believe the SSPCA here in Kuching does not have adoption fee but you can donate to the association.

i dont know about dogs but when i adopted my female persian 7 years ago, i had to pay 150 for her....
500 to adopt a dog in SPCA is totally ridiculous...... how are others to adopt if the fees are high????..... ![]()

Hi all, not sure about this, last month I went there for a weekend visit, I met with this uncle adopted one Dushund-betul ke eja ni...
(munchkin dog-short leg) and the fees was RM400.00. The uncle said he waited for so long until he went to spca. Special or rare breed make the fees higher? |

Hi folks
Mary might be the best person to answer but from what I know there are standard fees for kittens cats puppies dogs The regular type are at standard fees. Then there are pedigree or recognisable breeds. These are charged at slightly higher fees for a couple of reasons. 1. Grooming them - especially long-haired takes a lot of time and some effort 2. Medical - pedigree or breed animals are often not as hardy as local 3. Boarding costs 4. Way for SPCA to collect funds to support its operations 5. Vaccinations and follow up 6. Other stuff (that I don't know about hehehe) Food, medication and care (the people who clean, wash, cook, groom, take you around to look at the animals not to mention the medical/vet) for a single kitten can be in around RM10 per day - probably more for larger dogs etc. Getting a pedigree dog/cat from SPCA is still cheaper than from a pet shop (most of the time) and the good thing is that the new owner is giving a second chance to the animal as well as helping the society in its work. When adopting from "kebajikan" type organisations we need to also help them to support their work. Mary can give you more details probably. shiloh ![]() |

i aslo think that the place is also a factor. place of the spca. i find that if in kl u have to pay a certain price, the adoption fees. but in a more 'unknown' or 'unpopular' area, they usually say any amount is ok. give it as a contribution. although im sure most of us would understand if they ask extra in the form of the adoption fees but i suppose we dont really expect it to be that high. after all its just spca. but then they too need the money for the other animals. so... i guess there's a lot to be accounted for in the 500.
but do try and search at vets for pets as well. in ipoh, my vet told me she has a place where all dogs n cats that are very healthy & ready to be taken home. i only found out when i already adopted my new kittens & mother. huhu... she said no adoption fees but just a contribution would be enough.

I do agree with PB n shiloh over this n yes RM500 is a big sum of money but hey, think abt it, if u really love the dog or cat n what u want is to provide a loving environment, care of him/her in terms of his/her health n welfare. Furthermore, we can actually pledge donation to SPCA since u guys knew that SPCA did not receive any fundings fr our very own government n solely depending on generous donations.
So, juz take it as striking 2 apples with an arrow. Don't see the matter as trading but on a human value....
