Actually is a true fact the RETIRED RACE HORSES don't get the best in life.
To solve the problem is not that difficult.......... Turf clubs can start to allocate funds to have a well maitain shelters for these horses-they have the money!

Just because a horse is elderly does not mean they should be thin and malnourished. They qre like people - do you stop feeding your grandparents when they get old? No horse should ever be in the condition these horses in Sabah had to face. They were chronically undernourished, suffering from disease and skin conditions. Reports and photos from Selangor SPCA and WSPA, who have been trying to help them can be found here: http://selangorspcaequine.org/2008/...sit-to-ranch-a/ The petty, unfathomable cruelty of the owner, or whoever is in charge can be seen in barbed wire around the stable doors. When questioned on this, the owner claimed he had placed it there to prevent wind sucking/crib biting - bad habits in horses. This is not a normal proceedure - it is cruel and will injust your horse. Additionally, if a horse were to injure itself on this, it will receive a bad wound which will probably get infected, if not tetanus! It is perfectly possible that as you say, the stable manager is a kindly man. I don't know him. However, the evidence shows that a number of horses under his care are very sick. Learning how to look after horses takes a great deal of time and education. He clearly has not had this, or in this article in the New Straits Times he would not be brushing a horse's face (one of its most sensitive areas where one shold be most gentle) with a metal curry comb (a very hard brush used for cleaning other brushes - it shouldnt ever touch any part of your horse.) http://www.nst.com.my/Current_News/...2201105/Article FYI: two days after that articles' release, the writer has revised her claims http://www.nst.com.my/Current_News/...icle/index_html The Selangor SPCA and WSPA would much rather that this case were as you say, simply not true. They have a lot to do with their time, and witnessing cruelty like this is sickening. Representatives came away outraged and very upset. These are some of the pictures from the Melingsung Ranch. Luckily, those in charge look to have have recently started to fed, groom, de-worm, seek veterinary treatment etc for the horses. Perhaps people should make up their own mind whether this is in the horses' best interests, or whether those who encouraged the owner to do this were in the wrong http://www.slide.com/r/WEvFyfrQvT92...ApAc?view=large |
