I dont agree with that notion because saving cats from the street would be more noble and good than buying a cat at petshop. and suprisingly strays has less disease than the one that bought from petshop. the irony is that you already fork out the money to buy from petshop and later, for disease that arent showing any sign after warranty period expired, you have to fork out more.

The way you deal with animals will reflect on how you deal with humans stop breeding domestic cats | start spaying/neutering your cat(s) stop supporting those breeders | start saving strays cat Last edited by Jay : 25-09-2006 at 04:23 PM. for every kesian kitty we rescue from the pet shop 5 more will be produced if the demand is there. Poor mummy cat does not get any rest while in between litters she is producing for human profit. there are definitely more than 10 reasons why not to buy from pet shops. If everybody can do their part less cats will have to suffer -both in the shops and also producing litters for the shops. After reading all this it is still up to the individual whether he/she wants to buy. knowing the risks and knowing the suffering which our created "demand" puts these cats through is the first step. if this still does not strike a chord with the buyer then so be it.. why pay for something which is not up to standard. If you want a mix, you can adopt one. You shouldnt have to pay for something which is not of standard. (adoption fee aside). Basically buy original! ![]() |

"warranty" in sg is less than 24 hours! or for some, not at all. and you sign a contract stating this. also agree that strays have less illnesses than pet shop cats.. or at least different types. mites, fleas for strays are inevitable. however things like cat flu, ringworm and other fungal infections are a results of the cramped conditions of cats in shops which strays do not have to endure. when you save a stray you are saving a life. When you buy from a shop you are encouraging the creation of more lives to be placed in shops. Last edited by Jay : 25-09-2006 at 04:24 PM. |

It is SO TRUE. Some people just dont get this actually. Buying cats from petshop is like saving that one particular cat ONLY lah. Furthermore, if buying pets at petshop = saving strays, hehe... then it should be free to take also lah I guess, no need to pay to the petshop la. But seriously la, if THOSE CUTE KITTENS (LONG HAIRED ESP) at petshops are free to adopt, just like the strays some petshops put up for adoption, do you think they will be a lot of DLH kittens for adoption? Mass breeding cats for free? U think? ![]()

How on earth could buying pets from Pet Shops and taking cats from the streets even be in the same line, furthermore with the equal symbol in between . Where's the rational in that? Not in a million yrs I'd spend RM1K buying a cat, which only leads to more unnecessary breeding and suffering of more cats (and filling the pockets of those mercyless animal breeders). I'd much rather use that RM1k to rescue cats(rather than just cat) from the streets, spending on vet's bills and food which would give those cats (again, not just cat) a better life. At least 10 cats can be saved and be given a chance to have a good life with that amount of money. Seriously, kalau dah byk sgt duit tu, baikla sedekahkan to those more in need. |

Read all of your points - * Regards * I dont support Kitten Mills either. I have no estate in Pet Shops and unlikely. But I was stressing on a more liberal and finer points to buying kittens in pet shop. IF you like a cat from the Pet shop and you want to get the DLH/DSH from that Pet Shops then there are some precautions to take, some extra RESEARCH to do... Will I buy a cat in the Pet Shop? Depends with the details I receive. Likely I wont go out there to buy a cat for fun. but honestly speaking..if I have fell in love with one of the cat in the pet shop and some bio-chemistry happens then I will get it the cat. For good or worse I will take care of this cat. There are things we can never understand as why we fall in love with a particular person or a particular thing. |

i will pick a stray cat than forking out money to buy one at a petshop. picking a stray will give me much more satisfaction when he / she getting healthier, fatter etc etc... but so far, i couldn't pick up more as my current brood is more than a handful already...
btw, about DLH, DSLH not being available on the streets, look again. i've met quite a handful of them, but i didn't pick up as i don't have the space. i met one beautiful black dslh last weekend at a restaurant. i knew its a new stray as i knew the cats there ![]()

Actually, when it's too many, more than the owner can handle, disregard LH or SH, these things will happen: 1. Some owner let them be adopted for FREE. 2. Some owner let them be adopted for a SMALL FEE. 3. Some owner SOLD them. 4. Some owner THROW them at restaurants (with stupid logic like restaurant got food) 5. Some owner THROW them at wet market (again stupid logic like wet food got fish) 6. Some owner THROW them at housing area (with same stpid logic) 7. Some owner DUMP them at SPCA, outside the fence cos if he declare the cats, he will be charged for each cats sent. 8. Some owner put them in plastic and DROWN them. Altho I strongly believe, the numbers of LH strays are much lesser than SH cats. Because? Unwanted LH kittens can easily be sold (see point 3), either to Petshops or to indvidual. Why? Because they are still many of us will buy the kittens, regardless.
