I just feel the urgent need to share with u my precious eye-opening experience on tis matter.

This is gonna be a long read. However, if you understand the intended message, then I'm happy that it had served the intended purposes.

Yesterday was Deepavali, hence a Public Holiday in SG. With a paycheck in my pocket, so I decided to bring my family out for a good lunch (tis is what I always do ) at our favorite restaurant, Secret Recipe. After our fullfilling lunch and no interesting plans in-hand, I decided to drove by at a pet shop, shopping for my Boy's food. This is where it all started and what I'm gonna share with all forumers.

As soon as I stepped into the store, I was appalled with the strong stench that was coming from the other end of the store (this is where the kittens/cats are kept). Pls be reminded that the enclosure where the cats are kept are fully covered and there's another closed door leading to the cat house. As there were some other viewers in the cat house, I decided to shop for my boy's food first. Soon after, when the crowds lessened, I went into the cat house... Oh My God! If any of you forumers were with me, you will definitely feel the same way too! I was sooooo taken back with the state of the kittens/cats ... There were about +- 10 kittens/cats, which consists of RD, AC, BSH and 1 MC (which I didnt notice the MC earlier ...) I walked to n fro, fro n to ... All of them are in a pathetic state. All the kits/cats eyes are swollen and a yellowish discharge from their eyes ... also from the nose, there was these greenish/yellowish discharge ... And what I saw was there was one BSH kit, there was a greenish/yellowish discharge from its nose and then, she licked it off... OMG! My eyes were tearing .. and my mouth didnt stop cursing the owner ... Seeing the state I'm in, my family wanted to pull me home. I didnt want to, so I called the staff (not sure now whether he's just a staff, as could be an owner as he mentioned that he personally got one of the MC Dam from Australia). I started off the conversation by asking about the MC kit. I asked for the price and he quoted me S$1K. I then asked, "does it come with certificate?" He said, "Yes". Hmmm. .. I'm totally surprised as S$1K for a pedigree is filthy CHEAP! so I asked him again, "It comes with both cert?". He said, "Oh no no no, vac cert only". hmmmm ... this is when the thought of BYB comes to my mind! I interviewed him further... Suddenly, out of the blue, he offered me $750. I said, for a non-pedigree, I'm willing to pay S$500 for her. Why I'm doing this??? My honest answer is I feel drop dead pity for the kits and I want to bring her home to nurse her back to health. I told my family that I would even bring all the cats home and nurse them back to health. But I realised that this is not the ending point. I recalled what the other forumers had discussed in the previous threads, and realised that this may be one of a "KITTEN MILL".. I may saved all these kittens, but what about the future kittens??? Who will help the future kittens!!? If I purchase these kittens, the BYB wouldnt give a damn, instead they will still make money and forcing their sire n dams to reproduce soon enough... I was at a loose end. Probably, seeing me as a serius buyer, he offered to take the kitten out. I soon hold the 3mths old MC kitten in my arm.. The ears were infected with fungus, the inner ears were so dirty with ear wax, the kitten was so smelly and the furs were kind of coarse (for an MC kitten). The state of the ears and eyes were pathetic, just like what I mentioned earlier. I was very furious then ... I told him, "All your cats are sick!" He just gave me a sarcastic smile. After much 'discussion', he then provided me with an Import Permit for the Mummy MC, not a Pedigree Cert which I asked to provide. Then I asked for the Daddy's Cert. He cant provide me with one. That was IT! I told him off! "I would not even forked out a single cent to an irresponsible person like you!" (which btw, I wanted to spit the word "IRRESPONSIBLE BACKYARD BREEDER" right onto his face, but I chose to remain civilised instead!) He even got the cheek to tell me that this was the last kitten, all 5 had been sold out! I can't stop wondering why would there be anybody out there who wanted to buy all those sick kittens. Why would they be supporting these BYB? Without paying and collecting my shopping items, I walked out of the store with an irritated and disgusted sense of feeling deep down me. Not to mentioned that my family were totally surprised why I reacted that way, and after explaining to them, my last word to them is, "This is what an Irresponsible Breeder is all about." I dont care even if they are a BYB, but pls be a responsible one, looking out after the welfare and health of the kitten. Even though, you are just out for the fun of making money! My heart goes to the cats/kittens in that store! They are at the mercy of a merciless 2-legged beings! May God protect them.

Now I fully understand (which I failed to understand previously) on why some of us are so against Backyard Breeding Activities. The consequences of BYBreeding activities are on the cats themselves, not us. Its them who will suffer in the end, should there failed to be any adopters to adopt them.

I'm sure that forumers (cat owner/breeder) from SG would definitely be aware which pet store I'm referring to. Its located in the Eastern part of SG.

Now, the main purpose of me sharing this horrific personal encounter is to pass my message across. To all those amateur cat lovers/owners who have the intention to purchase any breed of kittens, DO NOT PURCHASE ANY KITTENS/CATS FROM A PET STORE. Purchase your kittens from a reputable breeder instead. Do not render your support sub-consciously to these kitten mills and IRRESPONSIBLE BYB, without knowing that you are actually supporting these kitten mills and BYB! I have NOT and WILL NEVER BUY ANY KITTENS/CATS FROM ANY PET STORE!

Oh, boy! East Coast....initials PS? Permission to post on some Oz lists? What a shame you didn't get the name of the mother from Oz? Could anyone do that, even now? This is what I abhor - the Oz breeders who just sell to the agents who send crates of kittens to S E A........

Another thing, I forgot to mention. Last time I went there, there was a small room for adult MCs on sale (there were 5, last 2 mths .. ) but yesterday, the whole room was empty. looks like going under some form of renovation. I asked abt the adult MCs. But that guy said, sent back to the farm. I asked where, but he named me a plc, where I honestly dont think there are any farms there! maybe I'm wrong!

Regarding the name of the aust breeders, name of breeder is Kxxxxx. sounds russian to me? does it ring a bell to u?

she's stopped breeding professionally that is. its not the first time her cats are in shops here.. one particular line is from hcm lines.

more than a year... she bred raggies/mc/singapuras. some of her lines are still i oz. but the hcm lines are in sg pet shops.
