I think the now-closed sphynx thread highlights an area of great concern - opportunist 'dealing' in a potentially lucrative market (or so they hope) by speculative importation of cats and kittens for fun and profit.

Could this have been inspired by astronomical local prices quoted?

As far as the kittens in question coming from a 'reputable' breeder - sorry. IMHO no reputable breeder would send a consignment of several kittens halfway around the world to the first person who asked.

My my! What happened in the closed topic? Someone was trying to sell sphynx in bulk? That is appalling! It sounds just like child trading to me.

I believe that many do not have the sense of ethics and compassion when they only see $$$$ sign. Shameful! One should see the philosophy of life before embarking to any conclusion or decision.

Aiiyyooo mak cik... someone is importing three Sphynx and intend to sell two and keep one for himself/herself.I notice that the kitten is not for breeding.

Yep - it started out with the announcements that X was importing a pair. Various questioned the wisdom and asked questions about the status of the person (knowledge/experience) and pointed out pitfalls - then we were told that there are 3 coming from a reputable breeder in Russia (surprise! Seems they come next, after Australia) and 2 would be on the market. X will keep one. God knows why! (Yeah - cash crop. We were told the local going rate can be RM10k)

Is the so call "reputable" breeder that has some kind of problem i guess not making sure their cats goes to good forever home.

So much for breeding in the name of passion........

Recently, a young man in S'pore also imported 3 sphynxes here from Thailand. He managed to get thru me thru another person and on the pretext of wanting to know more about sphynxes. When he did finally contact me, he told me that he had a sphynx in quarantine at that time. He wanted to breed his sphynx with my princess!. Asked him where his sphynxes came from as in the cattery name, he don't know. Asked if they were papered, he says no. Asked for the name of the sphynxes, he says they don't have a name!!!. Errr....and he was like "please don't tell this to anyone and its confidential and etc...". I was wondering what was all the privacy and confidentiality about in me asking about his sphynxes and more about his personal background. He claimed he was a shy person,etc, etc.

Then, I spoke to some people about this nut and lo and behold! this guy is quite a known figure. He happened to be from another forum and had all his background information there including his pictures. He apparently is a byb of ragdolls and dogs in S'pore. So much of being a shy and private person! When I told him that I wanted nothing to do with him because of what I found about him, he was so angry and called me vulgarities and ask me if I was mad to check up on him.

Well, if it concerns my precious babies, I have every right to check up your background. After that he claimed that he has a registrered kennel and cattery with a particular club in S'pore and has pedigree papers for his sphynxes. Unfortunately for him, I am also a member of that club and found out that he was lying. Some people will go thru lengths to convince you but we have to be on our guard and do our homework.

Oh My! That is scary! I just can't put myself to understand those who only thinks of money and disregard any sense of being humane. We have the capability to think, instead we chose not to. Well done Ger in making sure that your Athena is safe from these people. I can see Athena is in good hands.
