I was having a chat with my friend who is teaching in UPM and stays in one of the colleges inside.
What he told me really makes me, not just angry but plainly disgust. He told me that the administration of UPM cacthes all the strays in the colleges and throw the cats into Tasik Serdang. He did ask the catcher, a muslim woman where do they take the cats, she answered to the tasik serdang. I dont know how truth this is but if it really happen, UPM should not produce any vet at all. If anyone here is a UPM grads or vet or have anything to do with UPM, please clarify.

The only reason why BYB throw out their cats on the street. Overpopulation. He did tell me that the population of cats in UPM are enourmous. and this month is full with kitten delivery. what shocked me is that UPM got its own Vet Hospital. I dont know whether my friend is playing a joke to me but i dont think so.

For the sake of these kittens, I hope it is NOT TRUE
![]() I thought I read somewhere or heard somewhere where a forumer/someone posted/mentioned that UPM veterinary students sometimes practise stuff, example neutering on stray cats which are in their area. If this is true and what you mentioned is true..then I'm quite la |

emmm... doesnt sounds true la... tasik kan one of the water catchment area.. kerajaan will go after them.. and also I dont think a vet scholl instructor will do that. What they might do is to put to sleep. Takan lah especially Malay people somemore so educated will illtreat cats... susah sgt nak percaya. Maybe need mroe clarification as you said..

Kulstud2, its not the vet school instructor who catched this strays but adminstration staff of UPM. My friend said most probably the lady were joking about throwing the cat into the lake and my friend said that he just heard from the others colleague that the strays are put to sleep after they catched them. and my friend said he'll continue investigate for me. I just hope it was a sick joke.

Hmmm... Maybe what she meant buang kat tasik mean buang DEKAT tasik? Like when ppl throw cats at the restaurant, not literally in the restaurant but more like the areas of the restaurants. Or buang dekat rumah org, doesnt literally mean buang at someone's house, just a a taman perumahan or something like that. I think that was what she meant though it doesnt mean it's a right thing to do. Usually, when SPCA, DBKL etc are doing the catching cats thingy, most of the captured cats were put to sleep, especially those with diseases and old cats. Just imagine, a DSH kittens are hard enough to get adopted, let alone the old ones. If you asked me and I dont intent to sound harsh or cruel, letting those poor cats dying peacefully (put to sleep - euthanize?) is a much humane way than being burned to death, hit by a car or lorry or died painfully and slowly due to diseases. Just freaking start from home la, neuter/spay your OWN cats. At the very least, if the cat got lost, kidnapped or even being thrown by the so called owner (meaning you)... it will not at least contribute to the strays population. |

I'm a UPM grad and I've never heard or seen anything like it. Stray cats are everywhere circa UPM to this day, and rarely I see them being treated harshly by anyone. Tepi tasik banyak, kat Tmn U banyak, my faculty pun berlambak. In fact, I think kalau org buang tepi tasik tu logik la sebab tepi tasik tu ade foodstalls, and the cats seem to makan besar there. Buang dlm tasik tu cam keje org gila... But really, I doubt it, although I can't be so sure.
