It really angers me to hear of such irresponsible and negligent vets and petshops. They don't seem to realise that giving us another cat/dog will not make us feel better. Our pet is a beloved individual to us, and losing it is like losing a member of our family. Wake up, petshops and vets! Our pets are not just an animal. They are part of our family!!!!!!

Anyway, this reminds me of this petshop below my condo. It has boarding and grooming services.

Last Nov, my grandma passed away suddenly and we had to make an emergency trip to Penang. I didn't know what to do with my cat, so I went down to the petshop and asked to board my cat there.

Luckily I asked about how and what they do when my Blackie is boarded with them before I handed him over. Imagine my horror when they told me that it's not their responsibility if my cat escapes. They said cats are easily frightened and it's normal for them to escape from their boarding place.

I immediately took my cat home. No way am I going to risk my beloved cat. My hubby and I tried all the hotels in Penang that we know of, but none would accept pets.

In the end, we had to make a difficult decision. We felt it's safer for Blackie to be at home by himself than to be boarded. We left many bowls of water and food for him, plus got extra litter boxes, too. We left him alone for 2 nights, and during that time, I couldn't sleep a wink out of worry. Kept thinking of how my poor cat must be terrified that there's no one at home.

We found a very frightened Blackie when we got home. That was also the start of him being very vocal whenever he didn't see any of us. He would call and call. He was never so vocal before. So I don't advise anyone leaving their cats alone at home, they get traumatised. I'd never leave Blackie alone ever again. My mum says from now, we will not leave him alone, even for family's death. One of us will remain behind to jaga him.

Question

I have a suggestion.........maybe let our cats get to know other forum members and their cats (those who live near each other, of course), then when one member goes away, another member can help jaga their cats? In this way, our cats would not be amongst strangers, they would be with caring friends.

Friends, what do you guys think?

Blackie, don't ever board your cat at petshop.they are the main culprit.I am lucky my vet is such a good doctor. If I board my cats when I am away,Dr Jonathan and his crew take good care of my anak bulus. Once, he told me that his assistant wants to clean their cage and feed them. The moment he open the cage,my Putih (ibu kucing) scratch him.Wow!! she was very protective of her baby.Dr Jonathan praised what a good mother cat she was. he!!he!!

So far,I am very happy with ARA Ampang boarding service. They take good care of my cats.Dr Jonathan obviously not just another vet but he has a genuine love to animals.

No way am I going to board my cat at a petshop now that I know the petshop beneath my condo is not an isolated case. I'd rather not take any trip than risk my Blackie's safety and well-being.

You're lucky you got Dr. Jonathan. But now, after reading all these posts here, I'm so afraid of even leaving Blackie with a vet. He's such a coward and feels threatened when a stranger approaches him. In his fear, he hisses and growls, but those who don't know him think he's aggressive, which he's not.

That's fantastic that you and Nurul can have such an arrangement. You can travel in peace because you know your furry kid is in the hands of a genuine cat lover.
