Hi All,

Based on the previous thread, I do noticed that most of us including muslim would love to own a dog 1 day if given the chance.This is just a guideline and it is not a 100% facts as some are based on opinion and something to start with if we do not know where to start.

So I have done some checking in the Internet and asking few people who experience with dog.

The main criteria that I've been looking at:-
# the rate start from not recommend, low, medium, high, very high
## i put higher weighting on good with children as i have children
### all the rates are general remark and some will give different opinion of the breed.
#### all should be raised from puppy and totally depend on how the breeder raise them and the bloodline also important. So I wouldn't know if this is correct if we get from a pet shop or from rescue shelter.(im not saying getting dog from rescue shelter is not good, but i encourage for first timer to start owning a puppy first and preferably from a breeder.)
** not all are listed here as some I couldn't find in the internet. Another criteria we should have as a dog owner is that we have the ability to spend time with them, not leaving them alone for long period of time, able to bring them out for exercise and work out and being patient with them. Please do understand that dog are more sensitive than cat and easily misbehave if not properly taking care of them. So good and proper consideration is a must and decide yourself if you able to handle a dog!! Do not choose a dog based on popularity , make sure if the breed suites you and your home environment!!

1. Great with Children (only rated YES)
2. Watch Dog (High and above)
3. Guard Dog (Medium and above)
4. Good with other pet (specially small pet like cat) - (Yes, provided raise from puppy)
5. The high ability to learn (Medium and above)
6. Obedience (Medium and above)
7. Problem Solving (Medium and above)

The reason i put the item # 2 and 3 important, due to the fact that for Muslim, this items are very important when you want to justify yourself owning a dog.

%% You can find a larger breed if you take out 1 of the criteria above, such as you just need a watch dog and not really need a guard dog.. or you dont have children or you dont need watch/guard dog type as you can raise them indoor(for non muslim, --more for a pet)

On top of that, I would say, a careful consideration is a must if you really love to own, Siberian Husky, German Shepperd or Rottweiler as you really need to know the proper breed line, the proper breeder , specially is you are first time owning dog.

It is the same thing when you want to choose a cat breed.. understand their profile first before you decided which 1 you want to have at your home.

if i'm going to have a dog or two dogs, i'll find a good breeder. my reason is easy - temperament. a mixed breed is not easy to guess what is the temperament. and i don't want to have a dog that i can't handle!

good info farish. very practical and informative. i personally have a thing for danes and mutts. danes are so 'dufus' they make me laugh and mutts are so smart they keep me on my toes!

I agree with you on danes.. But I am not sure about mutts... But as for myself I would prefer a American Cocker as I own 1. Coz to be they are easy going with cats and other small animal... Even with some of the existing adult cat my dog are ok... Most of the them i find them playing and sleeping together....

For those Muslim who want a dog but cannot have one due to ( you know what )... perhaps you can have a arctic fox instead.... in between a dog and a cat... I saw one in Hasnul clinic once own by ( you know who ).

But I think this kind needs more care and time spend on them... I can tolerate a dog but not a puppy.... it drives me insane !

they are available locally. they are called rough collies and need a lot of exercise but are intelligent and gentle. needs lots of grooming though....please bring it to me. i would love to groom one

when i was in england, i used to go watch the sheep trials and watching the working dogs and their close affinity to their masters makes my goosebumps go up. just mere hand signals and different picthes of whistle and the communication!!!! amazing. my husband and i speak the same language and we still get mixed up
