a) Breeder's pedigree only
b) Breeder's ped with prefix removed
c) "Official" ped showing shipper's name as owner (no transfer in sight)
d) As above, with cat's name removed

Because MOST cat bodies in Aust would suspend/expel a breeder for supplying the slave trade, covering their tracks is important to the breeders involved. Many of the cats that end up in S E Asian pet shops wouldn't have been registered in the first place (remember, these breeders are doing it for money) because if there's no trace of the kittens having been bred, they can't be blamed for slave trading so easily, can they?

There are a couple who are more blatant about it but they belong to a group here not recognised by the mainstream cat fancy and it certainly appears that's where you go if you want to bulk ship.

Thanks for the info Lesley. Understood everything now but the ped cert is worthless without the tranfer cert as the cat can't be shown or their kittens can't be registered later as its not under the new owners name. Is the Australian Cat Governing Body going to do anything about this matter maybe stop all the shipment of cats and dogs in bulk and only allow private shipment straight from breeders to owners.

Well, I doubt THAT breeder (CFA, btw) will ever send a cat to China again! Some breeders care - but others don't.

Unfortunately, we can't stop the shipment - restriction of free trade, yadda, yadda, yadda. Which I think sucks. BUT what we're aiming at is getting gov't departments to change regulations about the number of kittens which can be shipped per box, and to up the minimum age for freight overseas. (Now 12 wks.... and it's just SOOOO remarkable that almost every kitten sent out of the country is miraculously 12 wks...) We want 16 wks minimum. Those 2 points would make it a pretty expensive exercise and because kittens wouldn't be so cutesy at 4 mths, there should be a drop in the trade. Legit breeders wouldn't care about age!

A private, legit breeder overseas wouldn't mind the kitten being 4 mths or more on arrival. I personally would never send a kitten that distance under 4 mths!

Duh! I've heard that SO often... I think that those who are not exactly the sharpest knives in the drawer hear about the slaughter of cats and dogs in China and Korea (which Korea?) for food ....which is absolutely true, BTW... get emotive and lump all of S E Asia into the same box. Many have probably never set foot out of Oz, so have no concept of cultural differences in your part of the world.... and not too many clues about geography, either!
