Agreed...the things is not many people willing to adopt shorthairs from PAWS or SPCA. So, when you adopted the longhair, they have to put the fee a little higher in order to feed the other shorthairs that not been adopted. Please consider that. p/s I publish when I want to publish or If I want to publish...the book is done. |

It is fair enough for PAWS to charge a nominal fee to sustain its operation BUT.......it would be great if their charges are put out in writing or on a notice board. I was there last week to make enquiries for a cat on behalf of my co-worker. First, I was told the adoption price is RM 50.00 but when I pointed at the tabby cat I was quoted RM 150.00 All these should be put in writing instead of taking prospective adopters by surprise.

our two cats are from paws and we were very satisfied. they DO have a notice board detailing adoption fees just as they said (we were there in Oct 2007).
we got two fantastic shorthairs and they got great personality and social skills and that says good things about paws staff. the adoption fees are very minuscule compared to the sums they need to feed, shelter, vaccinate, neuter/spay and staff the place. the RM250 fee for persian/long hair/breed was displayed on the board at the 'ready-for-adoption' cages and i feel it is very reasonable for the following reasons: 1) like many said: the attraction is such that there is a good chance people would fork it out and that would help the institute. 2)to encourage people into adopting short-haired cats. 3)caring for long haired breeds at shelters takes a lot of money because of the extra bunch of problems and skin conditions they have 4)caring for those cats at home WILL cost a bundle every month. if someone cant afford that good care for a long hair then should not adopt it. you get many folks who want a long hair...a 'persian'.. coz its soooo cute and for all sorts of rushed decisions not knowing or not prepared to care for them later. at the very least, this fee would raise alarm in the potential new carers and form some sort of screening against ballistic decisions. |

Wow..that's like reselling oredi. Kch SPCA was different, a good bargain actually because, You pay RM100 to be a member that allow to
a) Spay 3 cats for free. b) Get spay fee only for RM20. c) Adopt local cat/kitten for RM15 and mix breed or blue eyes for RM25 (that part I'm abit forgetfull lar) Wow, and that's a bargain just that I'm staying in Miri where the SPCA for Sarawak is in kuching. ![]()
