Just to share my story....
My brother's neighbour is one very irresponsible pet owner (ex-pet owner, to be exact!). The parents took in two kittens for their children. One of the kitten is female, knowing that, my sister suggested that they get her spayed to avoid unwanted kittens. Oh well, they took it lightly and said it is cruel, against the nature... did nothing, until the female kitten grew into a cat (the other kitten went missing.... don't know what happened). She became a very productive cat! She had so many kittens, and she would roam into our house compound (with her kittens) for food, my brother, being a cat person would feed them willingly but it is sad to see those kittens disappearing for god knows what reason! One even died in our house compound. The neighbours tells us they dump the kittens in the "pasar". The even have the cheek to say "Oh, We waited until they (the kittens) can fend for themselves before we throw them away" - hmmmm how 'kind' they sound? BS. And now, the last I heard. They have "thrown" the mummy and her kittens away (probably in pasar sentul) ... |

Here's another 2 examples that I came across recently........
1) Get rid of these two cats, I no longer want them.....my maid no longer ard to take of them.....(pics of these two cats will be updated soon for adoption) i'll pay RM100 each, send them anywhere.....(words frm a vip) 2) I want to adopt a cat but please don't neuter it because my wife is a Buddist......she does not agree to this.... ![]()

Lets look at the pros & cons of this. Have any of you guys who contributed to this thread been thru this situation? Well, I have been thru this not too long ago and I tell you it was real painful and hell for me.
If someone is unable to care for the cat/kitten for whatever reasons, I rather the person put up the cat/kitten for adoption. Its takes someone responsible to do that rather then let go of the cat/kitten out in the streets and claim lost and place so many advertisements pretending to offer reward and etc. While it is true that when couples have pets and the other half is not in favour suddenly for whatever reasons - what do you do? Divorce? Divorce the other half just for a cat/kitten? Let's get realistic here. I rather place my cat/kitten in another good home than go thru the hassle of spending thousands of dollars on the divorce, counselling, emotional trauma, etc. Perphaps this is a very subjective situation - it will depend on how strong your relationship is with your other half and your pet/s. **While having said that, I know of people who actually divorced because of their cats but thats because they own big catteries and their cats/kittens actually give them satisfaction then their own marriage. What about babies? They are many people who have pet/s while their babies are around but due to small age and not being able to manage the dander due to respitory not being fully developed yet, etc, does one expect to send their baby for adoption? or place the pet/s for adoption? You can never compare an animal and a human being. A lady carries her baby in her womb for 9 mths and go thru birth pains and post natal issues, etc only to give her baby away because the baby is unfortunately allergic or cannot handle cat dander?? I respect and feel for those who have to go thru such painful situations and place their pets for adoption. Its not easy to place a pet/s for adoption either, selecting and seiving and interviewing all the potential adopters is no joke plus going to their houses and viewing all their living lifestyle is a real eye opener and can be really discouraging especially when the potential adopters do not meet your criteria and these people apply only because the cat/kitten is for free! Right now, the only way is to educate people the consquences of having pet/s before/after marriage, etc. No point critizing and listing out all the reasons why people do this and that. Will it help? The forum is also another place where these people can place their pet/s for adoption, its like a help avenue/ hotline . Or would you rather have people convieniently dumping or placing pets in SPCA simply because they know that its useless getting help from forums for they will be critisized and misunderstood. ***I also wonder why you guys feel that most people placing adoptions are ingenuine. While you guys are perfect and blessed with flawless lifestyles with no challenges or threats in having to give up your cat/s, it would be appreciated if you guys gave others the benefit of doubt and sympathise the situation these people are in and of cse respect them that they are doing the right thing in rehoming their pets.

Gerr,I think you got the wrong idea on what the forumer wrote here. They are not saying that giving our cats for adoption is bad but people who did not spay/neuter their cat and cause a lot of problems later and mistreated their pets .I met 1 lady who have 5 cats and all are neuter/spay.Ok,that is fine. Then later on she told me 1 of her cat was run over when she was away in her kampung. She didn't send the cat to the vet and telling me that everytime the cat pee, blood coming out with his urine. I asked why did u leave your cat unattended when you were away?? I don't what to do,I cannot bring them along was the answer. She put the food that she assumed can last for 1 week and gone home to her home town.so the cat was actually roaming around the housing area. U tell me,what to do with this kind of people?? I told her that she can actually put the cat for boarding and she said,oh,yes I know but it is too expensive. To have a pet is a lifelong commitment. If you think it is expensive and can't commit 100%,then you should not keep pet at all. For some reason (as u said u have a very good reason to give out your cat for adoption) if the owner is reponsible enough to give the cat for adoption rather then just chunk the pet on the street hoping they can find food own their own.
Why should we disriminate animal and human being?? Both are also living thing. We should not mistreated both also. Animal can't speak. What do u think they will say if they can talk?? Quote:

By the way,I am married for 8 yrs and my hubby are not very keen to have cats at home as he dislike cats. But he tolerate with me knowing that I loves cat very much.so to say that because of cat marriage fall apart is an understatement. Marriage is sharing. Therefore, strong and good communication is important. I have to accept who he is and he too must accept me what i am and we make some adjustment. That's all.

I think each and every points raised here about the lack of responsibility on the part of the owners are so true. In my previous home (Le Chateau), there are so many abandoned cats. Siamese, mixed Persians, you name it. And one owner even threw out his dog, a spitz, because it made his home stink. I had to call the SPCA to come and rescue it. It was a lovely dog, but I couldn't keep it as I was afraid it might not be safe for my cat who was only a kitten at that time while the dog is an adult. Each time the owner comes out for an evening walk, the dog would go up to him, and he will beat it away with a stick. Can you imagine the heartlessness of such people? It just breaks my heart to see the poor dog looking so confused and betrayed.
And there's no such thing as the animals being able to fend for themselves once they are older. I don't know about dogs, but cats are finicky eaters. Once they got used to cat food, they would not eat the food we eat. My cat does not eat any of the food I eat, he rejects it. The only thing he seemed to accept as edible are those steamed & buttered corn kernels in cups and peanut butter (he licks them up greedily). I can't imagine how he'll survive out in the wild. My point is, it is unbelievably traumatic for the pets to be thrown out. They have feelings. How would a human child feel if his/her parents throw him/her out? That's what a pet feels, too. It can feel happy, playful, it can feel sad, angry, depressed, even frightened. If you spend a lot of time with your pets, you will see the myriad of feelings expressed in their face and eyes. |
